Description JOB DESCRIPTION Position: Maintenance Mechanic Assistant Status: Non-Exempt Salary: $18-$22; w/benefits Supervisor: Maintenance Mechanic II Hours: Seasonal, FT May-November Department: Maintenance Location: Red Cliff Chippewa Housing Authority JOB SUMMARY: This is an entry-level position in the Maintenance Department that performs vacant unit prep, minor maintenance, grounds care, custodial duties, manual labor and assists the Maintenance Mechanic II as assigned. Duties include, but are not limited to vacant unit clean-outs, stripping/buffing floors, washing walls, unstopping clogs; replacing receptacles, light switches, fuses; basic repairs, painting, custodial, grounds keeping, snow removal, trash collection. Examples of Duties DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs minor maintenance tasks such as repairing washers; unstopping sinks, tubs, and commodes; repairing commodes and drainpipes; replacing ceiling or wall receptacles, light switches, or blown fuses; painting surfaces, cabinets, and equipment.

Vacant unit prep, including clean outs, washing walls, stripping, buffing floors, meth remediation, unit cleaning & prepping for occupancy. Performs specific grounds care tasks in accordance with established procedures. The tasks include, but are not limited to mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, fertilizing, watering, reseeding; applying fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and sterilant, sweeping walks and drives; patching parking lots and drives; repairing signs; removing snow, spreading sand and/or ice-melt.

Custodial duties in office building and common spaces - sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, window cleaning, moving furniture around, rug/carpet shampooing, replacing toweling/toilet paper, collecting garbage/waste. Assist Maintenance Mechanics with general labor duties in the installation and repair of gas, sewer, and water lines, the installation or repair of plumbing fixtures, or other similar activities. Performs other duties as directed by the Maintenance Superintendent.

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY: None. Typical Qualifications KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: Knowledge of building maintenance practices, materials, systems. Knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, and methods commonly employed in the custodial care and cleaning of buildings, facilities, and equipment.

Knowledge of general grounds care procedures and maintenance. Ability to use and maintain non-powered grounds care equipment such as shovels, axes, hoes, wheelbarrows, saws, trimmers, and hedge clippers. Ability to perform tasks requiring moderately heavy manual work.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, tenants, and the general public. QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited high school or HSED/GED. Previous building/housing maintenance, handyman, groundskeeping, custodial experience.

Must be able to operate and maintain powered grounds care equipment such as tractor mowers, riding mowers, push mowers, edgers, trimmers, vacuums, blowers, sprayers, spreaders, and chain saws. Must be 21 years of age or older. Must have a valid driver's license.

Previous work history of reliable and punctual attendance. Supplemental Information PERSONAL CONACTS: Daily recurring contacts with staff, tenants/residents, Tribal departments. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Office is located at the Red Cliff Chippewa Housing Authority Office; work will be in office space, shop, housing units and the field (outdoors).

Work will include both indoor and outdoor work which means an employee can be exposed to wet, humid, extreme heat and/or cold conditions. Employee may also be exposed to moving mechanical parts, heights, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals (paint, varnish, floor strippers, cleaning/disinfecting supplies).

The noise level in the work environment will fluctuate based upon the task. Buildings and vehicles are smoke-free. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Will be required to travel locally to obtain materials, travel to and from work sites and do periodic travel for trainings/meetings both locally and nationally, which may involve overnight stays.
