Job Overview:
Under the supervision of the RN, the Operating Room Technician (ORT) performs various care activities and related services for patients undergoing surgical procedures (ANA Standards of Delegation, 2004). The ORT must be able to demonstrate growth and development knowledge and skills to provide patient care appropriate to patients of all ages. The employee must be able to successfully complete job specific orientation, competencies, and meet/exceed standards as identified in the criteria based performance appraisal. ORT must demonstrate awareness of patient's rights in all aspects of patient care and reports issue to appropriate person.
The Operating Room Technician must demonstrate clinical competence in areas applicable to perioperative care and must be able to successfully demonstrate leadership through coordination of unit equipment and activities.
Required: Certifications/Licenses/Education:
  • Basic Life Support: Health Care Provider, within six months of hire.
  • Completion of a high school education or equivalent (GED) preferred
  • Successfully complete ORT classes as required by care center/unit.
