Job description

Surgical Tech Extern

Requirements:

BLS current or able to complete soon after hire

Pass pre-employment requirements with HR

Treat/onboard same as a new scrub

Must complete a check off course with UBE prior to OR (gloving. Gowning, scrubbing, instruments, opening supplies, basic table setup

Will have a skills checklist for program instructor with tasks the employee has mastered

Will ALWAYS be working under supervision of experienced Surgical Technologist

Job Description:

Demonstrates effective use of supplies, instruments, and equipment  

Functions as an Operating Room Tech- Extern in OR setting

Must be familiar with Surgical Technology functions and patient care for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients

Good physical and mental health 

Must be able to lift, bend, pull, and push using good body mechanics, without limitation

Must possess visual acuity with corrective lenses to read printed material and visualize patients to the degree that changes in color or respiration can be detected; hearing ability with auditory aids to understand the normal speaking voice without viewing the speaker and speaking ability to ask and answer pertinent questions and relay information

Must demonstrate ability to wear properly fitting respiratory masks for periods of time without limitation

Rotate through MOR, ENDO, L&D, GGH. Spend time in SPD and supply room

2 shifts or more in SPD and Supply Room

Paired with seasoned scrub with 1 year+ experience

Only allowed to work under direct supervision of experienced scrub

Any remaining time can be spent in area of choice

No case sign-offs allowed for school requirements

Hours:

1-2, 10-hour shifts per pay period

Education Requirements:

Student of Accredited Surgical Technology Program. Current BLS
