Job description

Location: Sit Eeti Shaanax_ - Glacier Valley Elementary School
Full-Time Position (1.0 FTE) 

Position Summary: The position provides general clerical support in a district office or at a school site. Provides clerical assistance including filling, typing, phone duty and data entry and retrieval. 


Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is the entry-level clerical position requiring little or no prior experience.  The position is either closely supervised or works according to clearly defined rules and procedures.  The class includes the entry-level job at a school site, which is usually assigned the duties of receptionist and the District's Lunch Program.  The class also includes entry-level positions working outside a specific school site such as in the maintenance department or the district office.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way to obtain these would be:





  • High school diploma.
  • Some clerical experience preferred. 


Knowledge of:

  • Methods and procedures of modern office work.
  • Modern office equipment including personal computers.
  • Filing and record keeping.
  • Basic English.


Ability to:

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Operate a variety of modern office equipment, including personal computers and related software.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with other people.
  • Perform entry-level clerical duties such as filing, typing and telephone reception work.
  • Type approximately 30 wpm.


Compensation: This is a full-time 9-month position, working 37.5 hours per week, with a starting salary of $24.40 per hour. We offer an excellent benefit package including medical, dental, vision, the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) plan, and paid time off. This position is represented by the Juneau Education Support Staff (JESS) bargaining agreement. 



Selected hire will be fingerprinted at applicant's expense and fingerprints forwarded to the Alaska State Troopers and the FBI for a records check.
