Job description

Community Federal Savings Bank (CFSB) is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Associate, Sanctions Analyst to join its Compliance team. CFSB provides a broad range of banking services, including ACH settlement services, prepaid card issuance, retail banking, and banking solutions for FinTech companies and money services businesses.

Position Summary:

This position operates within the Second Line of Defense and is responsible for supporting the Bank's Sanctions Compliance Program by conducting investigations, reviewing sanctions screening alerts and escalations, monitoring regulatory developments, maintaining program documentation, and ensuring adherence to applicable U.S. sanctions laws and regulations. The Associate will partner closely with Compliance, Operations, Risk, and business stakeholders to support the Bank's sanctions risk management framework.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review and investigate sanctions screening alerts, potential matches, and escalations generated through customer, transaction, and payment screening systems.
  • Conduct sanctions-related due diligence and research utilizing internal systems, public records, and third-party intelligence tools.
  • Assist with the review, documentation, and resolution of sanctions-related cases in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and analyze updates to sanctions laws, regulations, and guidance issued by OFAC and other applicable regulatory authorities.
  • Maintain sanctions program logs, inventories, trackers, and management reporting to ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely resolution of open items.
  • Escalate potentially reportable or high-risk sanctions matters to management in a timely manner.
  • Support periodic sanctions risk assessments, testing activities, audits, and regulatory examinations.
  • Collaborate with Compliance, Operations, Fraud, BSA/AML, Payments, and other business units to ensure adherence to sanctions-related controls and requirements.
  • Assist in the enhancement of sanctions policies, procedures, job aids, and training materials.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of U.S. economic sanctions programs and regulations administered by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
  • Understanding of sanctions screening concepts, including name matching, alert review, false positive dispositioning, and escalation protocols.
  • Familiarity with banking products, payment systems, ACH processing, wire transfers, prepaid card programs, and FinTech-related activities.
  • Understanding of applicable BSA/AML and compliance principles and their relationship to sanctions risk management.
Skills
  • Strong investigative, analytical, and critical-thinking skills with the ability to evaluate complex information and identify potential sanctions risks.
  • Ability to perform research and document findings clearly and thoroughly.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present findings and recommendations effectively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Criminal Justice, Accounting, Risk Management, or a related field required.
  • 2-3 years of sanctions compliance, BSA/AML, transaction monitoring, financial crimes, risk management, compliance, or related banking experience.
  • Experience reviewing sanctions or AML alerts within a banking, fintech, payments, or financial services environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with OFAC regulations and sanctions screening systems preferred.
  • CAMS, CFCS, CGSS, or other compliance-related certification preferred, or willingness to obtain certification.
