General Description
The division offers an exciting opportunity to work with a team of professionals on high-impact projects and develop new skills. Auditors work on teams performing financial, compliance, and performance audits of state departments and programs. Each year, the division audits the state's most significant financial activities and performs compliance testing for federal programs as part of the statewide single audit. Performance audits are also conducted for a wide variety of objectives designed to evaluate specific state operations.
The staff auditor position is the agency's entry-level audit position. The position learns basic audit skills and performs entry-level tasks at the direction of supervisory auditors.
Starting annual salary: $77,493 - $88,432.50
Start date: negotiable (current students are welcome to apply if expected graduation is within the next year)
Examples of Duties

• Performs auditing procedures and techniques in accordance with audit standards established by the AICPA and government audit standards issued by the Comptroller General of the United States.
• Prepares workpapers that are thorough, complete, and accurate which document the audit procedures.
• Researches laws, regulations, contracts, and grant agreements to determine if programs and processes are being administered accordingly.
• Follows audit procedures to accurately identify errors and summarize the results of findings.
• Interviews state agency personnel regarding agency operations and documents the interviews.
• Works with state agency personnel to obtain audit documentation.
• Depending on experience, develops audit procedures.
• Depending on experience, assists in writing audit reports.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Ability to communicate in a professional manner.
• Knowledge of or willingness to obtain knowledge of AICPA and Government Auditing Standards.
• Ability to evaluate business processes, identify risks, and identify controls that should be in place.

Distinguishing Characteristics

• This is a fully exempt job class under Alaska Statute 39.25.110(3).
• Positions in the Division of Legislative Audit are required to be politically neutral.
• Class range and title will depend on experience and qualifications.
• Currently, we are not providing visa employer sponsorships.

Minimum Qualifications
An applicant who either:
(1) is qualified (or will be by their start date) to sit for the CPA exam and is committed to actively studying to pass it,
OR
(2) has passed the CPA exam or parts of the exam.
AND
Has a minimum GPA of 3.25 from an accredited university or college in a field relevant to this position.

In addition to completing and submitting the Workplace Alaska application, a cover letter and all relevant postsecondary transcripts are required to be submitted as part of this application package. The cover letter should describe your strengths, education, and experience. Your cover letter must also describe your plan to study for and pass the CPA exam and why you want to work for the Alaska Division of Legislative Audit.
Education and CPA Exam Eligibility
It's a requirement of this position that applicants meet (or will meet by their start date) the eligibility requirement in Alaska to take the CPA exam. Please refer to the Alaska Board of Public Accountancy website to review the current statutes and regulations regarding CPA exam qualification criteria.
Special Instructions for International Education
Education completed in colleges or universities outside of the United States may be used to meet the above requirements, if applicable. If utilizing this education you must show that the education credentials have been submitted to a private organization that specializes in interpretation of international educational credentials and that such education has been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education programs; or an accredited U.S. state university reports the other institution as one whose transcript is given full value, or full value is given in subject areas applicable to the curricula at the state university. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
