Job description

Welder/ Fabricator Job DescriptionJob Summary

Under the general supervision of the Welding & Fabrication Supervisor, the Welder/Fabricator is responsible for reading blueprints, preparing materials, and using welding and fabrication equipment to join, repair, and modify metal components in a safe, accurate, and quality-focused manner.

This position requires the ability to work with limited supervision, follow welding procedures, operate shop equipment safely, and complete work that meets company specifications and quality standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret basic blueprints, drawings, and work instructions with some direction.
  • Perform MIG, TIG, and ARC welding on parts and assemblies in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Weld, repair, and fabricate metal components using appropriate welding processes, tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Ignite torch flame or strike arc safely while welding, cutting, heating, or performing related fabrication work.
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, bolt, grind, and fit parts as needed to meet technical requirements.
  • Prepare, set up, and safely operate department tools and equipment, including but not limited to:
    • Ironworker/Piranha
    • Plasma cutter
    • Oxy-acetylene torch
    • Grinders
    • Saws
    • Hand and power tools
  • Perform welding using processes such as gas tungsten arc, metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, and other applicable welding methods.
  • Control fitting, burning, and welding processes to reduce overheating, distortion, expansion, shrinkage, and other material issues.
  • Inspect finished products and parts to verify work meets specifications and quality expectations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

Specifications/ Qualifications

Experience: 1-3 years of welding and fabrication experience preferred.

Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to read and understand basic blueprints and fabrication drawings.
  • Ability to safely operate welding and fabrication equipment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Good judgment and ability to work safely in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and complete assigned work with limited supervision.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Mental and Physical Demands

  • Indoors on a concrete floor in a fabrication/shop environment
  • Extreme noise, heat/cold, Dusty conditions, Welding fumes
  • Bright welding arc exposure, use of grinders, torches, saws, and other shop equipment
  • Occasional outdoor work & Possible shift work as required
  • Standing, walking, lifting, pulling, pushing, carrying, speaking, listening, hand-eye coordination, and good eyesight for reading blueprints, measurements, and work instructions.
