This role will work a hybrid schedule in our Columbus, Ohio office and report to the Senior Vice President, Chief Communications Officer.

JOB OBJECTIVE:

Develop and design high-quality deliverables for digital and print that elevate, differentiate and function on-brand and on-strategy from concept to completion in support of division and company objectives. Intimately understand the competitive space and our multiple stakeholders. Follow and continuously improve Encova's brand standards and guidelines. Responsibilities include layout and design for print, web and multimedia, including type specifications, illustrations, photography, print design, design, multimedia and other creative processes that combine art and technology to communicate ideas. Experience with video production, motion graphics and/or UX design is strongly preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop and create design solutions to communicate ideas using graphic design processes and techniques, including but not limited to: typography, images (digital photography, illustration and fine art) and other forms of graphic arts to prepare multi-channel marketing campaigns and communication materials, such as sales collateral, brochures, ads, flyers, social media and online ad graphics, presentations, booklets, annual reports, newsletters, public relations material, signage and other forms of traditional and digital advertising.
  • Responsible for managing the development and organization of materials as it relates to the external digital user experience.
  • Supports development of marketing and user interface content, usability, information architecture and visual design to create a compelling, intuitive and consistently branded user experience across all digital experiences, including desktop, mobile and tablet interfaces (omni channel).
  • Relentlessly consider the whole system or multi-channel campaign from the customer or user's perspective.
  • Proactively identify solutions to issues and makes recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Prepare image-based designs graphically rendered in appropriate formats to be used as flash banners and carousels on public and agents-only websites, and with other graphically rendered forms/greetings/materials.
  • Operate company photography and videography equipment and software.
  • Photography and videography services including but not limited to: associate security identification cards, agency luncheons, dignitary visits, associate appreciation activities, community involvement projects, special agent functions, social media campaigns and reels, architectural and office interior images, location shoots and studio still and video shoots.
  • Duties include maintenance and acquisition of photography and videography equipment, as well as archives and editing/retouching.
  • Work with customers or vendors to determine print production methods for projects during the initial design phase based on criteria, such as anticipated quantity, special paper or finishing techniques to produce the appropriate or desired end product.
  • Oversee production when using the company's print center.
  • Outsourced printing: Provide job specifications for quotes, evaluate bids and select appropriate vendors.
  • Oversee outsourced jobs through completion.
  • Manage image files, purchase and maintenance of licensed images.
  • Prepare presentations and supporting materials created by company personnel and for other stakeholders as assigned.
  • Outsource creative services as necessary based on project volume or to perform tasks not supported through in-house services.
  • Provide job specifications for quotes, evaluate bids and select appropriate vendors based on factors, such as cost, product quality, accuracy and attention to detail, and production time. Oversee outsourced jobs through completion.
  • Maintain consistency in representation of corporate and brand identity for all visual communications created by or approved through Branding and Communications. This responsibility extends to monitoring and direction for usage of company logos and corporate messaging in advertising by agents or other stakeholders.
  • Maintain the department's shared system files, including regular backup and purging based on corporate standards.

OTHER FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage projects, when assigned, and keep team members working within established deadlines.
  • Creative support is provided primarily to members of Branding and Communications but is also provided to agents and key stakeholders of Encova.
  • Provide direction on most appropriate production methods or sourcing for all projects.
  • Communication skills and an ability to drill down to a customer's requirements.
  • Support the other visual designers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • BA/BS degree in graphic design, communications, digital media, user experience design or related field, required.
  • High level of proficiency in design, UX, web and multimedia software and applications, such as Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.
  • Grasp of UX best practices for web and mobile product design.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of website structure best practices and creating sitemaps.
  • Knowledge of printing procedures, photography and illustration.
  • Knowledge of shooting video, animation and editing as needed.
  • Excellent visual, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Specialized knowledge of methods and techniques of graphic design and layout.
  • Corporate experience or related internships in a design position is desired.
  • Candidate must have a thorough knowledge of electronic publishing needs of printers, advertising mediums and other outlets so that publishing preparation costs can be kept to a minimum and production quality can be maximized.
  • A thorough knowledge of MAC OS and design software packages or programs.
  • Working knowledge of various printing techniques, equipment and processes, including four or more color production; a working knowledge of electronic presentation software, such as PowerPoint and Keynote, as well as equipment needed to display finished presentations; a working knowledge of the design requirements and supporting Adobe software for web page development.
  • Illustration/sketch design is helpful.
