The Supply internship enables students to experience the work environment of a Fortune 150 company while continuing their education. Students gain insight into the U.S. transportation industry while working for an industry leader. The specific work assignments will depend upon the student's qualifications as well as the duration of the work period. Students will be assigned projects and tasks equivalent to those of any analyst entry level position within the Supply Chain business group, including assessing data, responding to customer requests and working with vendors and contractors as they move through the Supply Chain process. Understanding of basic supply chain concepts and processes is strongly encouraged.
The Supply Chain business group, within our Finance department, is seeking students currently enrolled in a degree program. The student must be able to work 15-25 hours during the school year and full-time during the summer. Internship opportunities are available in our Procurement & Performance team or Supply Operations. We will work with you to find the best placement based upon your education, skill set and preferences. You will be assigned projects equivalent to those of any Supply analyst and will be given the opportunity to manage a project from start to finish.
The estimated wage for this position is between $21 - $25 per hour. Final rate of pay will be based on several factors including year of study, qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
Accountabilities
  • Learn and perform core department business group work tasks, processes, and customer services
  • Analyze data, address customer inquiries, and collaborate with external stakeholders
  • Offer operational support for department business group managers
  • Develop and execute project action plans and perform team assignments
  • Build and strengthen a network of professional contacts within departments and across the company
  • Assist with project management for various company initiatives and complete administrative tasks and special projects
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications - Required
  • Must be a full-time student
  • College credits equivalent to one year toward an undergraduate degree with preference for Supply Chain Management, Logistics / Transportation, or other business-related degrees
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic organization, prioritization and time/project management skills
  • Proficient Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) skills
  • Solid understanding of basic Supply Chain concepts and processes

Qualifications - Preferred
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Intermediate computer skills and able to learn UP's Accounting systems and databases to successfully accomplish desired project results
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills

Physical Requirements
  • This position requires extended periods of sitting and extended hours in front of computer screens
  • Maintains concentration, focuses on tasks and can make timely decisions
