Currently, this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship or STEM OPT extensions.

These positions are entry-level, usually only M-F, do not supervise, and do not require shift, on-call, direct care, or holiday work. The work is done in facilities, and either at home or in one of the DHHS offices in Augusta, Lewiston or Portland. Statewide travel is required, and overnights are often required.

Core Responsibilities:

As a Nurse Surveyor within the Medical Facilities Unit of DLC, you will be part of a team of professionals responsible for ensuring Maine's home health agencies, hospitals, hospices, ambulatory surgical centers, dialysis centers, intermediate care facilities for individuals with intellectual disabilities ("ICF/IIDs"), portable x-ray providers, outpatient therapy providers, and rural health centers are complying with all relevant State and federal regulations and laws.

You will usually be part of a team of 2-3 of your co-workers as you determine whether facilities meet the requirements to be certified or licensed, and as you investigate complaints of neglect, abuse, and other issues.

You will participate in writing the statement of deficiencies ("SOD") using the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' ("CMS") Principles of Documentation, if you and your team determine a SOD is required.

You will also:

Conduct pre-survey document reviews of pertinent information as assigned by your survey's Team Leader;

Participate in entrance and exit conferences with your team and facility leadership;

Participate in training, including mandatory training required by CMS; and

Other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Registered Nurse and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of nursing and/or in the delivery of health care services.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Maine, as issued by the State Board of Nursing.

Preferred candidates will ALSO have:

Knowledge of federal and state regulatory requirements for the types of healthcare providers listed above;

CMS Certification in any or all of the types of providers listed above;

Knowledge of CMS's Principles of Documentation;

Knowledge of CMS's databases ASPEN and/or iQIES;
