Job description

Laboratory Technician (Entry Level)

Job Description

The T1 Formulations Technician prepares and tests calibration materials used in diagnostic medical equipment for hospitals and clinics. In this role, you work in a regulated laboratory environment to formulate reagents, operate analytical instruments, and perform testing to ensure all products meet strict quality and regulatory standards. You use your scientific training, attention to detail, and ability to follow standard operating procedures to support reliable biomedical testing.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare vials of calibration materials and reagents used in diagnostic medical equipment according to established procedures and specifications.
  • Apply analytical skills and scientific methods to daily laboratory tasks, including accurate pipetting and precise handling of samples and solutions.
  • Operate, set up, and run DXI800 and DXI19000 instruments as part of the formulation and testing process.
  • Perform instrument set-up, calibration, routine testing, and troubleshooting of reagent components and instruments to maintain reliable performance.
  • Conduct testing on solutions, including pH, conductivity, and density measurements, to verify adherence to production and process specifications.
  • Follow and document work in accordance with FDA Quality System Regulations (QSR) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all laboratory and production activities, including reagent preparation and formulation steps.
  • Perform functional testing and analytical checks on calibrators and related materials, and record data to ensure all quality specifications are met.
  • Support non-conformance investigations and Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs) as needed, contributing to continuous improvement of processes.
  • Assist with scheduling, inventory management, and other production support activities to ensure materials and reagents are available when needed.
  • Use computer-based systems for data entry, analysis, and documentation related to lab work and production records.
  • Work independently in the lab while proactively seeking answers and clarification when needed to resolve issues or improve processes.

Essential Skills

  • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field.
  • At least 3 months of laboratory experience, which may include academic or school-based lab work.

Work Environment

This role is based in a regulated manufacturing and production environment with a strong laboratory focus. You work primarily in a large, chemistry-based main lab dedicated to the process of making calibrators for biomedical testing systems. Approximately 70% of your time involves hands-on lab work making buffers, preparing materials, pipetting, and running functional and analytical tests, while about 30% involves handling non-conformances, CAPAs, scheduling, inventory, and computer-based data analysis. Work follows detailed SOPs and quality procedures, with a high level of independence expected in daily tasks. One position is available on first shift, typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with flexibility to start or end earlier or later as desired. Another position is available on second shift, Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The facility operates on a campus setting near a lake with walking trails between buildings and convenient access to nearby shops and restaurants.
