IPG Photonics is seeking a PCB Manufacturing Technician (SMT Operator) to support printed circuit board production within our manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for the setup, operation, monitoring, and basic maintenance of Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment used to assemble electronic components onto printed circuit boards (PCBs).

The ideal candidate will have experience operating SMT manufacturing equipment, interpreting work instructions, performing quality inspections, and supporting production goals in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Candidates with a strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn additional manufacturing processes will have opportunities to expand their responsibilities to include equipment such as selective soldering systems and other PCB production equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, operate, and monitor SMT production equipment, including solder paste printers, pick-and-place machines, and reflow ovens.
  • Perform machine changeovers and verify proper machine setup according to production requirements.
  • Inspect PCB assemblies and components to ensure compliance with quality standards and work instructions.
  • Identify and troubleshoot basic equipment, material, and process-related issues to minimize downtime.
  • Load feeders, components, and consumable materials required for production runs.
  • Verify component placement accuracy and assist in maintaining process quality.
  • Follow ESD handling procedures and other manufacturing safety requirements.
  • Complete production documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Perform routine operator-level maintenance and cleaning of manufacturing equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Cross-train on additional PCB manufacturing equipment, including selective solder systems and related assembly processes.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering, quality, and production teams to achieve manufacturing goals.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in printed circuit board assembly, electronics assembly, soldering, or a related manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience identifying common electronic components, such as resistors, capacitors, diodes, and integrated circuits, is beneficial.
  • Previous experience with lead-free soldering, hand assembly, or electronic component installation preferred.
  • Familiarity with Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) procedures and safe handling practices is helpful.
