Job description

Manual Mill Operator

Location: Youngstown, OH
Pay: $17.00 - $21.00 per hour (based on experience)

Position Summary

ISC is seeking a detail-oriented Manual Mill Operator to join our manufacturing team in Youngstown, Ohio. This position is responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring manual milling equipment to produce high-quality machined components that meet customer and engineering specifications.

The ideal candidate will have experience using precision measuring instruments, interpreting blueprints, maintaining quality standards, and working safely in a production environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set up and securely position workpieces using fixtures, holding devices, hand tools, and hoists.
  • Operate manual milling equipment to machine parts according to blueprint specifications and required tolerances.
  • Monitor machine operation, gauges, dials, and indicators to ensure proper performance.
  • Verify alignment and dimensions using precision measuring instruments.
  • Remove completed parts and inspect for quality and accuracy.
  • Measure and verify finished components using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and related tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, job orders, and machining instructions.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, feed rates, spindle speeds, and depths of cut.
  • Install, adjust, and replace tooling as needed.
  • Monitor production quality and identify opportunities for process improvements.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
  • Report equipment issues, safety concerns, and production challenges to supervision.
  • Participate in monthly production and safety meetings.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating manual milling machines preferred.
  • Experience using hand tools and precision measuring equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of machining processes.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for the duration of the shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to machinery sounds, alarms, and safety warnings.
  • Ability to identify and react appropriately to potentially hazardous situations.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
