Description
The Porter County Public Library System is seeking a full-time cleaning and maintenance professional to join our team. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for maintaining our facilities in a clean and orderly manner. You will work closely with other team members to ensure the highest level of cleanliness and sanitation standards are met. You will perform general maintenance tasks, including but not limited to general labor, delivery of materials, deep cleaning, basic plumbing, landscaping, basic HVAC, and minor carpentry.
Location:
Frequent travel between Valparaiso, Portage, South Haven, Kouts, and Hebron.
The facilities specialist (G2) must satisfy the following responsibilities:
  • Carry out entry-level maintenance support such as painting, lawn care, and snow removal for routine and occasional facility care needs.
  • Perform detailed and deep cleaning as directed.
  • Deliver or support library services directly and indirectly, as needed.

The facilities specialist (G5) must satisfy the above and the following responsibilities:
  • Lift and move up to 100 lbs and push or pull at least 200 lbs on wheels.
  • Regularly stand on a stool or ladder.
  • Perform minor repairs on equipment, facilities, & grounds; use hand tools proficiently.
  • Assist with basic maintenance of HVAC and other building systems under supervision.
  • Routinely deliver materials and supplies to all locations on the courier route.

The facilities specialist (G8) must satisfy the above with minimal supervision.

  • Engage in extensive bending, stooping, pulling, reaching, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Stand on a stool to shelve books overhead.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Operate technology equipment.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle books, paper, and technology with manual dexterity.
  • Engage in repetitive tasks.
  • Tolerate exposure to dust, dirt, adhesives, toner, and chemicals.
  • Complete work onsite at any of our branch locations as needed.
  • Willing and able to work evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Indiana Public Librarian Certification, or the ability to obtain it, is required only for staff members designated by the administration as professional library staff.
  • Able to work with people of all ages.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail.
  • Willing and able to learn computer skills, applications, and devices relevant to the position.
