CNC Machinist (Mill and Lathe)

Job Type: Contract to Hire

Pay: $22-$28 with performance based increases available after 6-12 months

Hours: Monday –Thursday 3:00pm-1:30am (4x10 hour shifts)

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated CNC Machinist to join our team. This position is responsible for setting up and operating CNC milling and turning machines while inspecting precision components to ensure they meet quality and dimensional requirements.

This is a trainable, tiered position with opportunities for growth and advancement. Candidates may enter at different skill levels based on their experience, with clear opportunities to develop their machining, setup, programming, and inspection skills.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC milling and turning machines to produce precision components.
  • Load and unload parts, set fixtures, and verify proper part alignment.
  • Follow setup sheets, work instructions, and operating procedures.
  • Perform machine setups, establish work and tool offsets, and adjust speeds and feeds.
  • Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and height gauges to inspect parts.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, including GD&T symbols and 3D part features.
  • Edit or create G-code programs to improve machining processes.
  • Troubleshoot dimensional issues, tool wear, and surface finish concerns.
  • Maintain machine cleanliness and perform minor machine maintenance as needed.
  • Follow all safety procedures when operating CNC and other machining equipment.
  • Work closely with lead machinists, engineers, and quality inspectors to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of CNC machining processes; training available for entry-level candidates.
  • Familiarity with precision measuring tools and basic shop math.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow written instructions.
  • Willingness to learn CNC setup, programming, and inspection techniques.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3–10 years of CNC machining experience with mills and/or lathes.
  • Experience performing full machine setups, offsets, and tool selection.
  • Experience with G-code editing, live tooling, or multi-axis machining.
  • Knowledge of machining materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, and hardened steels.
  • Experience with blueprint reading, GD&T, and precision measuring equipment.
  • Familiarity with CAM programming software such as Mastercam or similar.
  • Previous leadership or training experience is a plus.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods while operating machinery.
  • Frequent lifting of materials and components weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to bend and handle precision components throughout the workday.
  • Work environment may include exposure to coolant, machining/grinding dust, and high noise levels.
  • PPE will be provided as required.
