Job Title: Reliability Development Test EngineerJob Description

The Reliability Development Test Engineer validates vehicles, systems, and sub-systems to meet strength and durability targets, ensuring they meet or exceed customer expectations. You will lead the delivery of sub-system and full vehicle computational and physical testing results at every stage of automotive development projects. When performance concerns arise during validation, you will develop appropriate countermeasure plans and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to implement effective solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Produce and analyze engineering data using established tools, methods, and formats while working independently.
  • Plan, prepare, and coordinate all aspects of reliability tests and simulations, including arranging facilities, requesting technical support, and acquiring necessary parts and materials.
  • Physically support tests by confirming that test setups are correct and ensuring that test plans are clearly understood and executed as intended.
  • Prepare moderately complex documentation for review by technical leadership, accurately recording and submitting all required development, testing, and research information according to the project schedule.
  • Coordinate and participate in root cause analysis activities to identify issues affecting vehicle, system, or sub-system performance.
  • Develop and propose countermeasure plans to address performance concerns identified during validation testing.
  • Support the execution of improvement initiatives by communicating findings, recommendations, and test outcomes to technical leadership and other engineering stakeholders.
  • Use data acquisition tools and methods to capture test data and provide clear, concise reports to engineering management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments to ensure reliability test results and countermeasures are integrated into the broader vehicle development process.
  • Apply computational tools, including FEA and scripting, to support durability, strength, and reliability assessments as needed.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
  • At least 1 year of engineering experience, which may include co-op or internship experience or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for data analysis, documentation, and reporting.
  • Experience in data analysis and the ability to communicate complex technical information to engineering management.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex ideas, technical findings, and concerns to technical leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Hands-on familiarity with test equipment used in reliability and durability testing environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with 3D CAD surface modeling software such as CATIA or SolidWorks.
  • Experience with data acquisition software used to capture and analyze test results.
  • Experience with FEA software such as Abaqus, Nastran, Ansa, Meta, or LS-DYNA for structural and durability analysis.
  • Experience scripting in Java, Python, or MATLAB to automate data processing, analysis, or simulation tasks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple test activities and documentation requirements.
Work Environment

This role operates in a mixed office and test facility environment within an automotive development setting. You will work with reliability test equipment, data acquisition systems, and computational tools such as CAD and FEA software. The position involves coordinating use of test facilities, supporting physical test setups, and verifying that test configurations align with defined plans. You will spend time both at a computer performing analysis and documentation, and in test areas confirming setups and observing test execution. Typical working hours follow standard business schedules, with additional time as needed to meet project deadlines and support critical validation activities. Attire is generally professional for office work, with appropriate technical or safety gear required in test and lab environments.
