Job description

Utility Specialist 

LOCATION: Edmonton - Alberta  - Canada 

DEPARTMENT:  ADMINISTRATION & FINANCE 

Role

The Utility Specialist position within the Utility Operations department is labour intensive and supports manufacturing operations within the facility to produce premium threading connections on pipe accessories and full-length pipe as per customer specifications and needs within the oil and gas industry.  

Please note: Tenaris requires employees to pass a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and fit test for this position as it is a safety sensitive position.

Responsibilities:

  • This Utility Specialist - Swage includes the functions: Saw, Stress Relief and Swage Functions
  • This specialty is an entry level position which can lead to progression to the phosphate specialty.
  • Beginning at the most basic utility area and moving to more complex utility areas, operators perform varied functions within the premium threading production line, including but not limited to:
    • Saw - cutting off damaged thread ends so pipe body can be repurposed
    • Swage - a manufacturing process using a hydraulic press to cold form the ends bigger or smaller to accommodate premium connection dimension
    • Stress Relief -- a manufacturing process of heating the pipe end to restore pipe properties after having been swage
  • Cross-training between utility specialties is important to flexible operations
  • Perform material handing activities such as loading, unloading, and moving products and materials by hand or using material handling equipment such as conveyor belt, overhead crane or jib crane
  • Conduct and accurately complete pre-safety checklists
  • Perform equipment setup and machine changeover in an efficient and safe manner
  • Provide training and supervision of new personnel
  • Using power and manual tools, complete tasks efficiently and to quality standards
  • Ensure product quality complying with defined standards and reporting deviations
  • Carry out duties in an effective manner meeting productivity and efficiency standards
  • Ensure proper use of the company assets, detecting, reporting and troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment
  • Attend and participate in training activities to maintain and increase company knowledge
  • Proactively suggest improvements and participate in continuous improvement activities
  • Actively participate in company safety procedures and programs: correct unsafe work practices or situations; follow reporting protocols for violations; participate in the Hazard Identification process
  • Perform other duties as required, including, but not limited to warehouse maintenance, housekeeping and administrative duties
  • Adhering to workplace safety policies, regulations and compliances and attend and participate in department safety meetings 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in an industrial setting
  • Candidates with experience in shift and/or on call work are preferred
  • Knowledge of safe equipment operation and procedures, maintenance and cleaning standards
  • Forklift certification, an asset
  • Jib Crane or Overhead certification is an asset     

Skills:

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Punctual, reliable, and willing to work flexible hours including overtime and weekends
  • Problem solving, decision making and effective communication skills and the ability to work in a team setting
  • Time management skills with the ability to prioritize to ensure timely completion of tasks while maintaining standards of quality
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, and understand verbal and written instructions
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity required for operating various utility equipment
  • Attention to detail is critical in this role
