Speech Language Pathologist
Location: West Orange, NJ
Pay Range: $82,000 - $105,000 annually depending on years of experience
Kessler Rehabilitation Center is the outpatient network of Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, one of the nation's leading rehabilitation hospitals. Founded in 1948, Kessler has continued to expand its programs and services to meet the growing demand for quality outpatient physical and occupational therapies. Today, Kessler has more than 90 centers in 13 counties across New Jersey, and treats more than 38,000 patients each year.
By carefully integrating clinical expertise, experience and leading-edge technologies, Kessler helps to optimize the recovery of individuals with orthopedic, sports and work-related injuries, musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions and other physical rehabilitation needs.
Kessler is not only committed to the health and quality of life of its patients, but to the well-being of its communities. Our centers host a wide range of free educational events, screenings and seminars and offer programming to local schools and colleges, libraries, community organizations, youth centers, sports and recreation leagues, and other groups.
Responsibilities
General Rehabilitation within the Outpatient Department
- The Speech Therapist will primarily work within the Outpatient Speech Therapy team, while providing occasional assistance within the Cognitive Rehabilitation Program as needed.
- The ST evaluates and treats patients with primary diagnoses of stroke, traumatic brain injury, progressive diseases, brain cancer, and head/neck cancer. Develops treatment plans to address deficits such as aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, dysphagia, dysphonia, and cognitive-linguistic impairments. Works with a multi-disciplinary team and assists in curriculum development and participates in monthly re-evaluations and discharge planning for designated patients. Provides feedback to family members to facilitate an understanding of and cooperation with the implementation of program goals. Serves as a resource for patients and family members and collaborates with all members of the rehabilitation team. Kessler's Outpatient Program is a dynamic learning environment with a multidisciplinary team approach. Opportunities to partner with community groups and resources. All outcomes are evidence-based driven.
Qualifications
  • Education: Successful completion of those educational requirements as mandated for state licensure or eligibility for a license in Speech Therapy
  • Licensure: Current and valid NJ state licensure or eligibility for state licensure as an SLP required
  • CPR Certification
  • Prior experience in an outpatient rehabilitation setting preferred; entry level acceptable
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with staff members, support personnel, patients, families, physicians, and other Kessler staff.
  • Ability to use proper body mechanics in all aspects of patient treatment (i.e. lifting, moving heavy equipment, transferring patients, etc.)
  • New grads looking for Clinical Fellowship are welcome
