LABORATORY TECHNICIAN I (Entry Level)
Location: Pasadena, TX
Pay Rate: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour DOE
Schedule: Day Shift | Typically 6:30 AM - 4:00 PM (schedule subject to change based on business needs)
Position Summary
This entry-level position is responsible for performing routine physical and chemical testing on raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to ensure compliance with established quality standards and customer specifications. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and an interest in laboratory operations within a manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Collect, label, prepare, and organize samples for laboratory testing and analysis.
- Perform routine quality control testing including pH, specific gravity, density, viscosity, moisture content, color, appearance, and basic titrations.
- Accurately record and enter test results into laboratory records and electronic systems.
- Notify laboratory supervision of any out-of-specification or abnormal results.
- Follow all laboratory procedures, quality standards, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Assist with calibration, cleaning, inspection, and basic maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Properly handle, label, store, and dispose of chemicals and laboratory materials according to safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
- Manage retained samples and laboratory inventory as assigned.
- Comply with all company safety policies and required PPE standards.
- Support continuous improvement efforts and perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 0–2 years of laboratory, quality control, manufacturing, chemical blending, process operations, or related experience.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when recording and reporting data.
- Basic math and computer skills, including data entry and spreadsheet usage.
- Dependable work ethic and willingness to learn laboratory procedures and testing methods.
- Ability to work assigned shifts, including occasional overtime and weekends when required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or coursework in Chemistry, Biology, Process Technology, or a related scientific field.
- Previous experience in a laboratory, quality control, chemical manufacturing, blending, or industrial environment.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment such as pH meters, balances, viscometers, and titration equipment.
- Experience working within ISO, GMP, or regulated manufacturing environments.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach throughout the workday.
- Work performed in both laboratory and manufacturing environments.
- Exposure to chemicals, odors, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and other equipment as required.
- Ability to read instrument displays, perform visual inspections, and distinguish colors when necessary.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to handle laboratory equipment, testing instruments, and sample containers.
