Job description

Lighthouse Lab Services is partnering with an innovative precision diagnostics company advancing the future of cancer diagnostics through proprietary cerebrospinal fluid (CSF)-based testing. Their technology combines advanced fluorescence imaging with molecular diagnostics to detect and characterize rare tumor cells that have spread to the central nervous system, providing physicians with critical information to guide patient treatment.

As the laboratory continues to grow, they are seeking a Cell Imaging Technologist to join their high-complexity clinical laboratory team.

Position Summary

The Cell Imaging Technologist performs high-complexity testing focused on fluorescence imaging, rare-cell detection, and cellular analysis within a CLIA-certified laboratory. This role is responsible for identifying and analyzing fluorescently labeled tumor cells, documenting accurate results, and supporting molecular diagnostic workflows while maintaining compliance with laboratory quality standards.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working with fluorescence microscopy or other cell-based analytical techniques and enjoys working in a fast-paced laboratory dedicated to advancing precision oncology.

Key Responsibilities

Cell Imaging & Analysis

  • Perform fluorescence imaging and analysis of patient specimens using established laboratory protocols.
  • Identify, analyze, and enumerate rare tumor cells using multi-channel fluorescence microscopy systems.
  • Differentiate true cellular signals from background fluorescence, debris, and staining artifacts.
  • Apply established laboratory criteria to accurately document imaging results.
  • Maintain consistency and accuracy across imaging workflows while meeting laboratory turnaround times.

Molecular & Laboratory Testing

  • Support molecular diagnostic testing workflows, including specimen preparation and assay processing.
  • Prepare reagents and laboratory materials according to established SOPs.
  • Perform routine laboratory procedures while maintaining specimen integrity and accurate documentation.
  • Assist with instrument setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting as needed.

Quality & Compliance

  • Perform routine quality control procedures and maintain complete laboratory documentation.
  • Follow CLIA, CAP, and internal quality system requirements.
  • Escalate unusual findings or quality concerns to laboratory leadership.
  • Participate in competency assessments and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Laboratory Operations

  • Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure efficient daily workflow and timely reporting of results.
  • Maintain laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance laboratory quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Medical Laboratory Science, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Cytotechnology, or another related life sciences discipline.
  • 2+ years of laboratory experience in clinical diagnostics, cell biology, cytology, pathology, biotechnology, or a related laboratory environment.
  • Hands-on experience with fluorescence microscopy, immunofluorescence, cell imaging, confocal microscopy, digital pathology, FISH, flow cytometry, or other cell-based analytical techniques strongly preferred.
  • Experience analyzing fluorescently labeled cells or interpreting microscopy images is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with rare-cell analysis, tissue-based assays, or oncology diagnostics is a plus.
  • Familiarity with molecular laboratory techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction or PCR is beneficial but not the primary focus of this role.
  • Experience working in a CLIA, CAP, or other regulated laboratory environment preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent observational and analytical skills.
  • Ability to accurately follow SOPs, maintain detailed documentation, and work independently in a collaborative laboratory setting.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: $80,000–$100,000
  • Annual Bonus: Target 10%
  • Equity & RSUs: Included
  • Relocation Assistance: Available based on geographic location
  • Medical Insurance: Employer pays 85% of premiums
  • Dental & Vision: 100% employer-paid
  • 401(k): 4% employer match
  • Paid Holidays: 13 annually
  • Paid Time Off: 4 weeks, with additional accrual based on tenure
