Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking an IT Project Technician to join our IT Projects Team. This is a hands on technical role focused on onboarding new managed IT clients and assisting our Project Engineers with the implementation of technology solutions across a variety of client environments.

The Project Technician plays an important role in bringing new clients into our managed IT service offering. You will help discover and document client environments, deploy our management and security technologies, prepare and install equipment, assist with technical remediation, and ensure client environments are ready to transition to our ongoing support teams.

You will also work alongside experienced Project Engineers on infrastructure projects involving networking, servers, Microsoft 365, Azure, backup and disaster recovery, wireless, workstation deployments, migrations, upgrades, and other technologies.

This is an excellent opportunity for an IT professional with a strong technical support foundation who wants to move beyond day-to-day support and develop deeper skills in infrastructure, cloud, networking, and project implementation.

What You'll Do

  • Assist with the technical onboarding of new managed IT clients.
  • Participate in client technology discoveries and infrastructure assessments.
  • Gather and document information about client workstations, servers, networks, applications, Microsoft 365 environments, and other technology assets.
  • Deploy and validate required management, monitoring, security, backup, and support technologies.
  • Prepare, configure, and deploy workstations and other end-user equipment.
  • Assist with resolving technical issues identified during client onboarding.
  • Work alongside Project Engineers on server, networking, cloud, wireless, backup, migration, and infrastructure projects.
  • Stage and configure equipment before project deployment.
  • Assist with the installation and configuration of switches, firewalls, wireless equipment, servers, workstations, backup appliances, and other technologies.
  • Assist with Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory, and Entra ID-related projects.
  • Perform testing and validation following installations and deployments.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and escalate complex problems to Project Engineers when appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate client and project documentation.
  • Enter detailed project notes and accurately track project time.
  • Communicate professionally with clients during onboarding and project activities.
  • Work collaboratively with Project Engineers, Project Management, Managed Services, NOC, Security, and other internal technical teams.
  • Travel to client locations as required for onboarding and project implementation.

What We're Looking For

  • 1–3 years of professional IT experience in technical support, desktop support, field services, managed services, or a similar technical role preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems and Microsoft 365.
  • Basic understanding of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Entra ID.
  • A solid understanding of basic networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, switches, firewalls, wireless networks, and VLANs.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting workstations and peripheral devices.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to follow technical procedures and implementation plans.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with clients and internal technical teams.
  • Ability to work both independently on assigned tasks and collaboratively with senior technical resources.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and take on increasingly complex technical responsibilities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to client locations and occasionally perform scheduled after-hours project work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous MSP or IT consulting experience.
  • Experience with client onboarding, workstation deployments, or technology refresh projects.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 administration.
  • Exposure to firewalls, switches, wireless networks, and other business networking technologies.
  • Experience with endpoint management, RMM, backup, or security technologies.
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft, Cisco, or other relevant technical certifications.
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.

Benefits

  • Excellent benefit offerings including medical, dental, vision, and supplemental insurance
  • Bonus eligible
  • Paid time off
  • Cellphone allowance
  • Company paid life insurance and long-term disability insurance
  • 401(k) plan with matching company contribution
  • Paid training and certification opportunities
  • Annual company store allowance

Who Will Be Successful in This Role?

We're looking for someone who has developed a solid IT support foundation and is ready for the next stage of their technical career.

You don't need to be an expert in every technology we use. You should be comfortable with troubleshooting technology, following technical procedures, working directly with clients, documenting your work, and asking the right questions when you encounter something outside your experience.

The ideal candidate enjoys hands-on technical work and wants exposure to networking, servers, cloud technologies, security, Microsoft 365, Azure, and infrastructure projects while learning from experienced Project Engineers.

Career Development

The Project Technician position provides an opportunity to develop the technical experience required to take on increasingly complex infrastructure projects.

As your technical skills and project experience grow, you will have opportunities to assume greater responsibility for implementations and continue developing toward more advanced engineering responsibilities within the IT Projects Team.
