Position Title: Control Systems Engineer II - Design
Position Location: Remote - work virtually from anywhere in the United States
Role Level: Entry-Level / Early Career
This is an entry-level support role intended for candidates who are early in their BAS/EPMS, controls, or MEP design career. The position works under immediate supervision and is designed for someone with foundational technical knowledge, strong communication, and a desire to grow into design document deliverables.
JOB SUMMARY
The Control Systems Engineer II provides technical support to plan, schedule, and execute design document deliverables for building automation system (BAS), electrical power monitoring system (EPMS), and software integration design projects in hyperscale data center and similar mission critical / technology sectors.
This Control Systems Engineer II will work with internal and external MEP/FP engineers, ICT engineers, equipment representatives, equipment vendors, BIM / Revit / AutoCAD designers, and client staff to ensure proper design and acceptance of Building Automation Systems.
Systems Engineer II will rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision.
This person will communicate and operate in line with organizational goals and values, as well as departmental objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist in Production of Building Automation Systems Engineering Documents (70%)
  • Perform basic engineering work and design tasks under a senior engineer's supervision
  • Support designs for DDC and PLC based building automation and electrical power monitoring systems for one or more projects
  • Support designs for controls network / system architecture including IT / OT requirements
  • Support selection of instrumentation, sensors, actuators, valves and other field devices
  • Support creation of and review project book and sheet specifications
  • Support creation of and review sequence of operations
  • Support creation of and review system diagrams and points / alarm lists
  • Work with client IT departments to ensure safe and secure systems to meet best practices
  • Utilize Revit software to prepare drawings and visual aids

Assist in Construction Activities (20%)
  • Work as part of the engineering team and interact closely with the project management team
  • Review shop drawings and submittals
  • Review and respond to RFIs
  • Participate in building automation focused design reviews and page turns
  • Participate in internal and external quality control and peer reviews
  • Assist with punch lists and project closeout documents

Reporting and Communication (10%)
  • Assist with project communication and reporting
  • Assist with project progress reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Manages personal hours using company tools

Completion of Assigned Tasks and Deliverables on Time and on Budget
Performs Other Related Duties as Assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS (BEGINNER LEVEL FOR ALL THE FOLLOWING UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED)
  • Knowledge of building automation / electrical power monitoring systems principles
  • Knowledge of IoT and smart building solutions
  • Knowledge of Revit
  • Knowledge of open-source protocols (BACnet, Modbus and SNMP)
  • Knowledge of DDC systems including Distech, Honeywell, and Tridium Niagara
  • Knowledge of PLC systems including Schneider Electric and Allen Bradley
  • Skilled at using MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams), along with exceptional organizational skills for file management
  • Skilled in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail
  • Ability to leverage AI and emerging technologies to streamline workflows, optimize operational processes, and contribute to company-wide innovation
  • Ability to work successfully in a remote environment through effective communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, proactiveness and resourcefulness in a distraction free workspace
  • Ability to follow company and site safety requirements
  • Ability to analyze and prepare documents, reports and correspondence
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form (technical and non-technical information)

TRAVEL / RELOCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Up to 10%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states
  • Effective May 7, 2025, and in accordance with U.S. federal regulations for domestic air travel, a valid REAL ID (or an acceptable alternative, such as a passport) is required for travel associated with this position.
  • Travel may involve transportation by car or plane depending on the destination and nature of the business need.
  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meetings for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.
