Job Description

As a Junior Automation Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to assist in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of automated systems and processes. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for automation and help create efficient solutions. This entry-level role will allow you to develop your expertise in control systems, programming, and process optimization while contributing to productivity, quality, and safety in manufacturing environments.


Responsibilities:

  • Support the analysis of existing processes, workflows, and systems to identify areas suitable for automation.
  • Assist in the design and development of automated systems, including hardware, software, and control components.
  • Collaborate with project teams to understand and document automation requirements and specifications.
  • Contribute to project timelines and resource tracking for ongoing automation projects.
  • Help select, integrate, and test appropriate sensors, actuators, controllers, and software tools.
  • Assist in the implementation of control strategies and algorithms to optimize system performance and safety.
  • Program, configure, and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and human-machine interfaces (HMIs) under supervision.
  • Conduct testing, validation, and data collection of automated systems to ensure reliability and adherence to quality standards.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and operations teams to provide basic technical support and troubleshooting.
  • Stay updated with emerging automation technologies, industry trends, and best practices.
  • Follow relevant safety standards, codes, and regulations in all design and implementation tasks.
  • Assist in coordinating with vendors and suppliers to evaluate automation components.
  • Support the commissioning, startup, and integration of automated systems into production environments.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including system specifications, user manuals, and change logs.


Competencies and Educational Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.


Experience:

  • 0 to 2 years of experience in automation (including internships, co-ops, or academic projects).
  • Basic academic or practical experience with automation tools and software, such as SCADA or HMI systems.
  • Basic experience with CAD software for mechanical and electrical design (e.g., SolidWorks or Autodesk Fusion 360).
  • Basic understanding of PLC, embedded systems, robotics, and industrial networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP).
  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical and electronic systems, including wiring and basic circuit troubleshooting.


Communication Skills:

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Physical Demands
