Position Overview   

This is an entry level position that assists the survey crew in obtaining accurate survey measurements, operating, and reading the instruments used by the survey crew in conducting route, bridge, hydraulic, and property surveys. 

Essential Functions
  • Ensures the collection and recording of accurate survey data using survey instruments in an efficient manner.
  • Performs calculations based upon instrument readings and presents information in a meaningful format.
  • Performs duties in accordance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current registration as a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Illinois; OR Completion of a bachelor's degree in land surveying from an accredited college or university PLUS successful completion of the Fundamentals of Surveying examination or Surveyor Intern license; OR Completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related science including 24 semester hours of land surveying courses PLUS successful completion of the Fundamentals of Surveying examination or Surveyor Intern license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong oral and/or written communication skills.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Experience with highway construction, design, surveying, or related fields.
