JOB TITLE: 2nd Shift AccessionerDEPARTMENT: Gross RoomPOSITITION SUMMARY:This role primarily serves to accession and prepare patient specimens for analysis by designated departments and ensure for proper communication and documentation regarding Gross Room requisitions and related Orchard entries. This position may also perform Lab Aide duties, including assisting technical staff in the preparation and mixing of formulas, washing and sterilizing equipment, and keeping the laboratory organized.DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:The Gross Room Technician is responsible for:Receive, unpack, and inspect all incoming pathology specimens.Verify specimen integrity upon receipt. Check for proper specimen labeling, documentation, and container condition.Match specimens with requisitions to ensure complete and accurate patient identification.Accurately enter patient demographics and other test information into the laboratory information system, Orchard.Assign unique, computer-generated identification numbers to specimens that will be used for specimen tracking.Accurately identify and label specimens.Process and accession laboratory specimens for testing and ensure that specimens are delivered to the proper departments for testing.Pull slides or cassettes and paperwork to be sent to reference labs.Scan requisitions into Orchard.Ensure specimen stability and identify specimen errors. Follow procedures to correct problems using proper documentation.Must be able to multi-task.Ensure proper completion of all work.Must be able to troubleshoot problems when necessary.Ability to respond to changes in work schedule when necessary.Perform well under pressure.Must maintain a clean and safe working environment and wear the proper PPE.Strict adherence to CAP, CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, State, Federal, and Safety regulations, as well as company and departmental rules, policies and procedures.Must support laboratory goals, policies, procedures, and philosophy.Exercises strict confidentiality.Must complete all required annual training.Performs other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTSEducation:High School Diploma requiredKnowledge of Medical Terminology requiredExperience:Experience in a medical laboratory or office environment preferred.Equipment:Experience with scanners, information systems, computersKnowledge/Skills/AbilitiesKnowledge of Medical Terminology requiredKnowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.Ability to listen, read, understand, and follow oral and written instruction.Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with employees, physicians, vendors, clients, and external agencies.Hours: 2nd shift - 3pm-11:30pm
