Job description

JOB SUMMARY The Mobile Gantry Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of mobile gantry cranes used to lift, move, and position large precast concrete products and formwork throughout the yard and production areas. This role is critical to maintaining smooth production flow, proper product handling, and safe storage practices within the plant. This position reports to the Crane Supervisor. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Operate mobile gantry cranes to lift and transport precast concrete panels, beams, forms, and other large components Safely maneuver crane loads throughout tight spaces in the production yard or loading area Rig and secure loads using chains, slings, and spreader bars as needed to ensure safe lifting Coordinate with yard crew, forklift operators, and spotters to ensure clear communication and load safety Load and unload trucks with finished precast products according to delivery schedules Inspect cranes daily and perform basic maintenance (checking fluid levels, tires, cables, and controls) Document movements, inspections, and incidents in accordance with company policy Adhere to all OSHA regulations and plant safety procedures, including PPE use and load limits Report any unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or near-miss incidents to supervisors immediately Assist with other material handling tasks when not operating crane SKILLS & ABILITIES High school diploma or equivalent Valid DL with clear driving record 2 years+ relevant experience in a similar environment Valid crane operator certification preferred Knowledge of safe lifting techniques, rigging techniques and load limits and balancing Ability to read and interpret load charts, signals and placement instructions Ability to operate various types of equipment depending on load and terrain Strong communication & situational awareness skills and the ability to work independently or with a team Attention to detail skills FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires constant (70-100%) sitting, handling, feeling, use hands to finger, hearing (listening) and observing (vision), hand/eye coordination and walking. Requires frequent (40-69%) climbing, balancing, stooping, walking & crouching and occasional (0-39%) standing, bending, twisting, keeling, crawling, reaching, pulling, pushing & reaching. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust and focus. This position is subject to onsite hazards including but not limited to moving industrial equipment, hazardous energies (LOTO), climbing ladders, working at heights, working on uneven or unimproved surfaces and areas of high noise levels, may operate hand and power tools (electric, gas & pneumatic) of all types. Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc. May be required to work in confined spaces. Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.). Candidate must be able to be medically qualified by a NON-DOT or other job specific physical.
