Job description

Full-Stack Engineer II

Keep Company Bethesda, Maryland, United States

About this position

About Keep Company

Keep Company is on a mission to make human connection an intentional, scalable asset in every workplace. Weโ€™re a venture-backed SaaS platform recognized by Techstars, Forbes, and SHRM, and our patented talent platform delivers relationship-based development experiences at leading professional services organizations. Talent leaders use it to launch, scale, and measure mentoring, coaching, and ERG programs with little admin burden and real, measurable impact.

We support 20+ clients in professional services โ€” zero churn, multiple six-figure contracts. At a moment when AI is rapidly reshaping how we work, weโ€™re rebuilding the human layer of it, because people are the asset organizations most need to invest in for culture, retention, and performance.

Brass Tacks
  • $150K base
  • Meaningful equity in an early-stage, venture-backed company
  • We pay 100% of the premium for employee only coverage under one of our medical plans and 75% of the premium for dental and vision. Dependent coverage available, too.
  • 401(k)
  • High accountability + high flexibility culture
Location & Travel

Two options:

  • DC area: Our team and office are in Bethesda, MD. We work in person Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. If youโ€™re local or willing to relocate, thatโ€™s great but not required.
  • Remote. You'll fly to DC for 3 days every quarter, and you'll keep significant overlap with Eastern hours for standups, pairing, and day-to-day communication.

Either way: this is a high-collaboration role. If youโ€™re looking for async-only, heads-down remote work, this wonโ€™t be a good fit .

The Opportunity

As a Full-Stack Engineer youโ€™ll report to our newly hired Principal Engineer and ship features and squash bugs with a strong appetite for continuous improvement. Youโ€™ll join a small team of 20 with 5 engineers including you. We're at a genuine inflection point: enterprise pilots running with named law firm clients, an AI-native engineering culture weโ€™re actively building, and a platform foundation being rebuilt from the data layer up.

Youโ€™ll work day to day with our Principal Engineer and VP of Product, with regular exposure across the company. Youโ€™ll write production code every day, own end-to-end delivery on real client features, and pair on the harder problems.

We're looking for someone with genuine curiosity with the foundations to contribute on day one.

Our Stack

Next.js application (React, TypeScript) with Aurora PostgreSQL on AWS. If you havenโ€™t worked in this exact combination, thatโ€™s okay! Just having exposure to them and/or parallel technologies and ability to recognize similar patterns, identify opinions and differences between them are really what we value.

What Youโ€™ll Own
  • Features, end to end. Frontend through backend, ticket to production. Clean code, real tests, peer-reviewed PRs.
  • Bug-fix work across the platform. Help us drive defect escape rate down quarter over quarter, and build the muscle memory of catching things before they ship.
  • The testing and tooling foundation. Playwright suites, CI checks, our internal while having an awareness of alternative tooling.
  • Architecture, in partnership. Pair with the Principal Engineer on the harder decisions and learn the stack at depth.
  • The teamโ€™s bar. Raise it through your own code and through generous, specific code review
What Weโ€™re Looking For

We care much more about how you think and how you operate than whether your rรฉsumรฉ matches our stack.

  • Solid foundations. You understand what your code does: data modeling, HTTP, state, async behavior, why the query is slow. You can debug something you didnโ€™t write. Youโ€™ve built enough to have real opinions and enough humility to know where they came from.
  • Genuine curiosity. You read source code when the docs are thin. You know why the tool you use works the way it does. You bring back things nobody asked you to look into.
  • Drive. You move things forward without being pushed. Youโ€™d rather ship something imperfect and iterate than polish in private.
  • You take ownership. You close loops: when you own something, the next step is clear without anyone chasing you. You flag and mitigate risk early instead of routing around it. You help people even if you donโ€™t know the answer.
  • Ambiguity is the norm. You donโ€™t need fully specโ€™d out tickets to make progress. If you are stuck, you reach out while choosing a justifiable action over waiting for the next sync.
  • Tests are part of writing code. Not a phase afterward, not someone elseโ€™s job.
  • DevOps / Cloud Infrastructure . We are on Vercel & AWS. The more experience the better, knowledge of best practices from security and scaling standpoints are coveted.
  • Youโ€™re open to an AI-native workflow. We use AI tooling heavily and weโ€™re still figuring out where it belongs. You donโ€™t need to be fluent yet โ€” but you do need to be genuinely willing to work this way and skeptical enough to verify what a model hands you.
  • You can walk us through your work. Bring a meaningful piece of code youโ€™ve written recently. Be ready to go deep: what you built, what was hard, what youโ€™d do differently now. This is the core of how we evaluate.
  • ~3โ€“5 years of professional engineering experience. ideally at a B2B SaaS company. A strong signal with less experience is welcome.
Nice to Have
  • Exposure in our stack (TypeScript, React, Next.js, Node, PostgreSQL) but any modern web application stack you know is fine. We care that you can reasonably figure out where something is happening in a modern web application between infra, frontend, backend and database.
  • Daily use of AI tooling: Claude Code, Copilot, or equivalent with a real point of view on where itโ€™s strong, where it fails, and how you verify output.
  • Small-team experience, especially where contractors and FTEs ship side by side.
  • Multi-tenant SaaS, identity systems (WorkOS, Okta), or HRIS integrations (Workday, UKG).
  • HR tech, legal tech, or future-of-work environments.
  • Open-source contributions, side projects, or anything youโ€™ve built that nobody assigned you.
Why Keep Company
  • A small, mission-driven team that ships, celebrates, and grows together - as we rebuild the human layer at work!
  • A preโ€“Series A company with enterprise revenue, named law firm clients, and a clear wedge into a large, underserved
  • A genuinely AI-native engineering culture โ€” built that way, not retrofitted.
  • Direct mentorship from our Principal Engineer on a small, ship-focused team.

If you're energized by our mission but don't meet every listed qualification, we'd still love to hear from you.
