Controls Engineer – Custom Automation

Location: Elgin, IL

Job Type: Full-Time

Compensation: Up to $160,000 (Based on Experience)

Overview

Join an Automation Development team designing and building custom automation and robotic equipment for high-volume manufacturing. This is a hands-on role where you'll own projects from concept and programming through debugging, testing, commissioning, and factory integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, program, and commission custom automation systems
  • Develop PLC, HMI/SCADA, servo, robotics, and machine vision applications
  • Debug and validate hardware and software performance
  • Review electrical schematics and support controls architecture
  • Collaborate with mechanical engineering and assembly teams throughout machine builds
  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), customer installations, and commissioning
  • Travel 25–30% for equipment startup and integration

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in custom automation or machine-building environments
