About the Position

  • Business Area: Transmission & Distribution Technologies (TDT)
  • Department: High Voltage Testing (HVST)
  • Location: 800 Kipling Avenue, Toronto, ON  
  • Term Length: 12 or 16 months
  • Year of Study: 3rd & 4th year preferred
  • Salary: The hourly rate for this position is $21.00-$28.00 per hour. Please note, the salary information provided is intended to be used as a guideline. Final rate offered will vary upon candidate's prior co-op/work experience, years of study completed, relevant skills, as well as internal equity considerations.

How You Will Make an Impact

This opportunity involves responsibilities including but not limited to:

  • Support the development, testing, and documentation of in-house software used for data analysis, data storage, report generation, and instrumentation control.
  • Assist with programming tasks using tools such as Python, MATLAB, JavaScript, and databases.
  • Collect, organize, analyze, and visualize engineering and laboratory data.
  • Support engineers and technologists with laboratory electrical testing, applied research, and new product-development projects.
  • Assist with test setup, data acquisition, equipment automation, and troubleshooting under the supervision of senior staff.
  • Prepare graphs, technical summaries, software documentation, and draft report content.
  • Research relevant engineering methods, technologies, and scientific publications.
  • Follow established software-development practices, including version control, testing, validation, and documentation.
  • Provide progress updates and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Kinectrics' safety, quality, and project procedures

What You Need to Succeed

  • Currently enrolled full-time in a post-secondary engineering, computer science, data science, or related program requiring a co-op placement.
  • Academic, project, or previous co-op experience with Python, MATLAB, or another programming language.
  • Foundational knowledge of data analysis, statistics, engineering mathematics, or scientific computing.
  • Interest in electrical power systems, engineering software, laboratory testing, or applied research.
  • Familiarity with databases, web development, signal processing, equipment automation, or AI/ML is an asset.
  • Experience with laboratory instruments, electrical circuits, or data-acquisition systems is an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, initiative, and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn and follow all established laboratory, electrical, and workplace safety procedures.
