Apex is seeking entry-level Environmentalย Field Scientists that willย beย responsible forย conducting comprehensive on-site environmental assessments atย various operational sitesย to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal corporate environmental protocols. This role,ย utilizingย an established checklist, willย evaluate facility operations;ย identifyย risks; ensureย environmental programs are properly implemented; and provideย correct actions as needed toย supportย environmental regulatory programs.ย ย
The anticipated start date is June 17, 2026.ย
Travel:ย Role requires 80% travel to operational sites and must be able to drive to client sites within an approximate 300-mile radius of Buffalo, NY.ย
Your Responsibilities as an Environmentalย Field Scientist:
- Conduct scheduled andย on-callย environmental inspections atย operational sites to evaluate:
- Hazardous waste handling, labeling, and storage
- Universal waste and e-waste managementย
- Stormwater and wastewater systemsย
- Spill prevention and control measuresย
- Air emissions, refrigerant management, and equipment complianceย
- Solid waste management and recycling streamsย
- Chemical storageย ย
- Material storage and managementย
- Inspect areas such as loading docks, fuel systems, waste storage areas, material handling areas, and mechanical rooms, etc. for environmental risks.ย
- Review facility documentation including:ย ย
- Hazardous waste manifestsย
- Emergency response plansย
- Spill logs and incident reportsย
- Inspection checklistsย
- Training recordsย
- Environmental permitsย
- Environmental recordsย
- Equipment recordsย
- Environmentalย performance dataย
- Prepare detailed inspection reports using standardized online reporting platformsย
- Proposeย corrective actions to address compliance gapsย
- Perform field work including collectingย and processingย environmental samples (stormwater, wastewater,ย air, etc.)
This position is primarily scheduled during standard business hours; however, periodic on-call coverage and off-hours work may be required. The employee must be willing and able to travel to client sites, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, as business needs dictate.
Educationย
- BA/BS degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, Biology, Geology,ย Engineering, Dataย Analytics, or related discipline.ย ย
Experienceย
- 0-3ย years of experience conducting environmental inspections, audits, or regulatory compliance assessments.ย
- Experience in distribution,ย logistics, warehousing, or manufacturing environmentsย stronglyย preferred.ย
Skills/Competenciesย
- Knowledge of key environmental regulations (RCRA, EPCRA, Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act, DOT hazardous materials).ย
- Ability to interpretย environmental records,ย manifests, and regulatory documentation.ย
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, audit tools, and reporting platforms.ย
- Strong analytical andย problem-solvingย abilities.ย
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.ย
- Comfortable working independently in field settings.ย
- This position is based in Cleveland and requires frequent travel within a 300mile radius. Candidates must be able to reliably travel throughout this region.
- Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
- This position requires successful completion of medical screening and pre-employment drug testing.ย
