POSITION PURPOSE:
The Design Engineer (DE) is an entry-level engineering position. The DE is required to have passed or is preparing to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
The Design Engineer works in a collaborative team environment under the supervision of senior engineers. The Design Engineer performs routine engineering assignments requiring knowledge and application of basic engineering principles to complete project requirements. They are assigned specific tasks on a project, and are expected to use their education, intelligence and critical thinking to perform job responsibilities. The DE will learn the different aspects of a project and learn how to complete tasks required to assemble a set of plans.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform structural design calculations, interpreting building codes
  • Documenting all project communications
  • Instructing BIM Modelers how to turn designs into completed structural drawings
  • Assist in structural engineering evaluations, reports, analyses and designs for existing and new facilities and other related opportunities
  • Participate in site visits
  • Review of contractor's submittals
  • Review shop drawing submittals and request for information
  • Research and identify governing criteria, codes, guides, and best practices
  • Work under the supervision of project managers, senior structural designers, and other senior-level team members
  • May be asked to travel to out-of-town/state assignments
  • Work alongside functional departments to fulfill corporate needs
  • Adheres to LBYD Corporate Values

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering w/ Structural Focus or related undergraduate degree.
  • 0-2 years' experience
  • Required to have passed or is preparing to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
