About Smart Infrastructure - Electrification and Automation:

Siemens' Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets and through all sales channels. We provide reliable power distribution grids of today while investing into our Future Grids portfolio and applications to create the power distribution grid of the future. Our comprehensive portfolio meets the growing technical requirements of today's and tomorrow's power grid, focused on photovoltaic inverters, medium-voltage power distribution equipment including packaging and services, and solutions, including automation and protection.

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Medium Voltage Switchgear team (covering both Gas-Insulated and Air-Insulated technologies). This role focuses on our SieBreak™ and 8DJH36 product lines, supporting design, documentation, and manufacturing.

This hybrid Electrical Engineer role is based in Wendell, North Carolina, with flexibility to work in-office and from home. Local candidates are encouraged to apply. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates. Located in the heart of the Research Triangle about 20 minutes east of Raleigh, Wendell offers top-rated schools, a mild climate, easy access to mountains and coast, and a cost of living that allows our compensation to go further.

You'll make an impact by:

  • Serving as the Electrical Engineering point of contact for Siemens Medium Voltage switchgear products, including SIEBREAK™, SIEBREAK VCB™, and 8DJH36.
  • Independently creating customer- and factory-ready electrical design documentation using Engineering Design and Configurator tools (schematics, BOMs, layouts, wiring, and one-line drawings).
  • Owning end-to-end electrical deliverables, ensuring designs meet customer requirements, manufacturing needs, and Siemens quality standards.
  • Collaborating closely with Application, Project, and Mechanical Engineers throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Providing factory and FAT support, acting as a quality gate prior to release and resolving technical questions during manufacturing and customer acceptance.

You'll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • One (1) or more years of experience designing or drafting electrical power distribution products (switchgear experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of medium-voltage protection and control systems and the ability to apply and communicate that knowledge effectively.
  • Hands-on experience with AutoCAD Electrical, E-Plan, Engineering Base, ELCAD or similar electrical drafting tools.
  • Willingness to travel internationally, including trips to Germany.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis without sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Focus or advanced degree in Power Systems.
  • Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL, and NEMA standards for MV switchgear.
  • Experience with Siemens 8DJH36 and SIEBREAK products or comparable MV switchgear platforms.
