Job description

The Building Electrical Group is responsible for all building electrical systems including lighting, fire protection and low voltage for our design build, industrial projects. We design and build food and beverage production facilities. Our building electrical team is involved with designing the electrical systems, calculating power loads, determining, and selecting equipment sizes, and vetting and selecting suitable vendors, suppliers, and sub-contractors. The professional will have technical responsibility for scoping, performing, and delivering multiple concurrent project assignments. His/her specific responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
Responsibilities
  • Design electrical systems for building power, i.e. normal, emergency, and standby power distribution systems for 208v, 480v, and medium voltage for industrial facilities.
  • Document all necessary calculations for the design such as short circuit, selective coordination, arc flash, generator sizing, steady state and transient voltage drops, load calculations, conductor sizing, raceway fills, etc.
  • Maintain project document organization
  • Manage time and meet commitments
  • Understand Ohms Law, AC/DC, Electric and magnetic fields
  • Understand power system theory - 3-phase vector math, power factor, symmetrical components
  • Understand capacitors, inductors, and resonance
  • Design lighting for food processing spaces, including lighting calculations for emergency and inspection lighting level needs. Coordinate fixture placement/mounting with other trades.
  • Design fire alarm systems per NFPA 72, 101, and local building code.
  • Design low voltage systems such as LAN, phones, PA, Wi-Fi, access control, cameras, etc.
  • Produce bid documents consisting of layout drawings, one-line, riser, schedules, details, and specifications.
  • CAD - add 2D devices to Xrefs
  • Procure long lead light fixtures and power distribution equipment such as switchgears, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, MCC's, generators, variable speed drives, and UPS's.
  • Transformer configurations
  • Estimate weights of main tray/trapezes and equipment needing support
  • Assist in managing electrical bid process for clients, observe construction, and assist with startup.
  • Project planning and feasibility studies.
  • Actively participate in and support department-wide standard development, updates, and maintenance.
  • Research electrical building/power materials and best practices
  • Support talent growth within our organization

Required Education Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 0-3 years of work experience or schooling in electrical systems for building power.
  • 0-3 years of work experience or schooling in designing lighting, fire alarm systems, and low voltage systems for building spaces, including lighting calculations, and coordinating fixture placement with trades.
  • 0-3 years of work experience or schooling in electrical bid documents and procuring electrical materials and equipment.
  • 0-3 years of work experience or schooling in AutoCAD, Revit or other related design programs.
  • Relevant internship(s) in a manufacturing or construction setting preferred.
  • FE or PE tracked desirable.
  • Travel to customer project sites for fieldwork, review, audit, and meetings, estimated 25%.

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift-up to 15 pounds at times.

Travel Requirement
  • Up to 25% travel required to visit project site and other offices.
