Class I Maintenance Engineer
Department: Engineering
Reports To: Director of Engineering / Engineering Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The Class I Maintenance Engineer performs entry-level maintenance and repair tasks to help maintain the resort's guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities. Working under the guidance of senior engineering staff, this position assists with preventive maintenance, responds to guest service requests, and helps ensure the resort is maintained in a safe, clean, and operational condition while delivering exceptional guest service.
Essential Functions
- Complete assigned preventive maintenance tasks on guest rooms, public areas, and resort facilities.
- Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests in a courteous and professional manner.
- Perform basic repairs including:
- Replacing light bulbs and ballasts
- Repairing or replacing door hardware
- Unclogging drains
- Repairing plumbing fixtures
- Basic painting and drywall patching
- Minor carpentry repairs
- Assist senior engineers with electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical repairs.
- Perform routine inspections to identify maintenance concerns and report deficiencies.
- Maintain swimming pool and spa areas as assigned.
- Operate hand tools and basic power tools safely.
- Complete work orders accurately using the property's maintenance management system.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all safety procedures, OSHA standards, and Omni Hotels & Resorts policies.
- Assist with special projects, room renovations, and resort maintenance as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous maintenance, construction, landscaping, or hospitality experience preferred but not required.
- Basic knowledge of general maintenance principles is a plus.
- Willingness to learn multiple maintenance trades, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and painting.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team.
- Dependable with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs and ladders throughout the workday.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Safely operate hand tools, ladders, and basic maintenance equipment.
Schedule Requirements
- Must be available to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- May be required to work overtime or respond to emergency maintenance situations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid driver's license
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
- OSHA 10 and CPO certifications or willingness to obtain.
- EPA Section 608 certification is a plus but not required.
