Job Description
We are seeking an entry-level geological engineer to join our consulting group based in Tucson, AZ.
Staff engineers are expected to perform the following duties. Skills in these areas will still be at an emerging level, and it is expected that many of these skills will need to be further developed on the job:
- Assist in editing and creating tools or programs for application to geotechnical engineering data collection and analysis (programming/coding)
- Provide data collection support
- Rock fabric mapping
- Drone mapping
- Oriented core logging (Televiewer, Reflex ACT III, TruCore)
- Geomechanical logging
- Geomechanical sample collection
- Process field data
- Carry out multiple forms of analyses, e.g.:
- Surface
- Bench-scale analysis
- Interramp analysis
- Overall slope analysis
- Rockfall analysis
- Underground
- Kinematic and empirical analysis
- Auditing of ground support designs
- Surface
- Provide support in the writing of technical reports and memos
- Foster strong client relationships while on and off site
- Assess risks/hazards and prioritize working safely
- Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to Project Manager or Principals
- Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects
- May assist senior Geologist/Engineers on large, more complex projects.
Performs other related duties as apparent or assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in geological engineering, geotechnical engineering, mining engineering, or related engineering discipline
- 0-4 years' experience
- The position involves domestic and international travel
- Professional registration considered a plus
- All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S
- Ability to travel for field work up to 60 days at a time
- Ready to work with a safety-first mindset both in and out of the field
- Computer literacy, experience with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Possesses experience with coding and programming, enhancing technical proficiency and enabling efficient problem-solving and automation within geotechnical and engineering applications-a valuable asset in adapting and optimizing processes in a technical consulting environment
- Experience with the following programs are considered a plus:
- MinePlan3d, Vulcan or other 3-Dimensional modeling program
- AutoCAD
- Finite Element modeling programs - FEFLOW, FLAC3D, FLAC2D
- Rocscience suite of software
