Position Summary

The Process Engineer I supports manufacturing operations by developing, improving, and sustaining production processes throughout the sheet metal fabrication operation. This entry-level engineering position partners closely with Production, Quality, Planning, Purchasing, and Maintenance to improve safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery.

The Process Engineer I assists with troubleshooting manufacturing issues, implementing engineering changes, supporting new product introductions, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across laser cutting, forming, welding, finishing, and assembly operations.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Manufacturing Process Support

  • Support daily manufacturing operations by troubleshooting production and quality issues
  • Assist in developing efficient manufacturing methods for new and existing products
  • Evaluate production processes and recommend improvements that increase throughput and reduce waste
  • Support fabrication processes including:
  • Fiber laser cutting
  • Press brake forming
  • Welding (MIG, TIG, robotic)
  • Hardware insertion
  • Grinding and finishing
  • Mechanical assembly
  • Participate in root cause investigations and corrective actions for production issues

Engineering Documentation

  • Create and maintain manufacturing routings and Bills of Materials (BOMs)
  • Develop and revise work instructions and standard operating procedures
  • Process Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
  • Maintain engineering documentation within the ERP system

Product & Customer Support

  • Review customer drawings for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Assist with prototype builds and first article production
  • Support product launches and engineering transfers into production
  • Collaborate with Sales and Customer Service to resolve technical questions

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives
  • Analyze production metrics to identify opportunities for improved efficiency
  • Recommend tooling, fixture, or process improvements that reduce cycle time and improve quality

Quality & Compliance

  • Support corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
  • Assist with nonconforming material investigations
  • Ensure manufacturing processes comply with company quality standards and customer specifications
  • Support ISO 9001 quality system requirements
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline, preferred but not required
  • Recent college graduate or up to three (3) years of experience in a manufacturing engineering, process engineering, or production engineering role
  • Manufacturing internship, co-op, or other hands-on engineering experience preferred
  • Experience in sheet metal fabrication, welding, laser cutting, CNC machining, press brake operations, or metal forming is preferred but not required
  • Working knowledge of CAD preferred SolidWorks
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Excel (formulas, PivotTables, and data analysis), Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems is preferred
  • Familiarity with manufacturing documentation including engineering drawings, bills of material (BOMs), routers, work instructions, and engineering change orders (ECOs)
  • Basic understanding of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, continuous improvement, and root cause problem-solving methodologies is preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing specifications

  • Ability to wear required PPE and work safely in production areas
