Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group (QISG) is a rapidly growing interdisciplinary engineering company within the Quanta Services (Quanta) family of companies. QISG is seeking entry level GIS professionals interested in working to support large-scale engineering and construction projects throughout North America by providing GIS solutions to our engineers, project managers, construction partners and clients.


About this Role


A GIS Staff Technician within QISG focuses on data capture and real-time reporting for project-related internal engineering support with deliverables that ultimately serve our clients on large-scale energy generation and transmission-related projects. Collaborating with an in-house, multi-disciplinary engineering and construction team — including civil, structural, geotechnical, construction management, and construction experts — a GIS Staff Technician plays a crucial role in providing GIS solutions on projects; responsibilities include supporting our GIS Coordinators in building custom solutions to best serve individual projects/programs, performing daily quality control over all project deliverables, and performing the geoprocessing/analysis steps necessary for successful delivery.


This role is an office-based position. A successful candidate is an efficient self-starter, leader, communicator and problem-solver who is comfortable using the latest ArcGIS Pro software and ArcGIS Online. They are experienced with an array of geoprocessing tools, and they are capable of independently problem-solving and provide work-around solutions to common ArcGIS processing errors and obstacles on the fly. The GIS Staff Technician is encouraged to leverage the latest advancements in GIS software and processing techniques to optimize the user experience for all end-users and clients.


  • Assist in the set up and maintenance of GIS data capture/tracking projects
  • Attend meetings related to project set-up/maintenance/delivery
  • Directly interface with clients and/or QISG Project Management to hone-in on project support needs
  • Perform daily quality checks on tools, maps, or outputs and swiftly trouble-shoot issues in real time
  • Build Survey123 forms in Survey123 Connect and web maps for data collection in Fields Maps
  • Report on weekly activities to GIS Manager
  • Independently research updates/advancements that may impact our tools/outputs or provide new solutions to consistent obstacles
  • Run and manage python scripts for automation of process workflows
  • Provide daily technical support to field staff with a patient and collaborative approach
  • Support other GIS requests within our Civil Engineering group

  • GIS/GISP Certification OR Bachelor's Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science or related field
  • Minimum 1 year experience using ArcGIS in a GIS Technician (or equivalent) role with applied cartography, database management, and spatial analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to comfortably operate ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
  • Ability to work with moderate supervision and maximum efficiency in a small or medium size office setting

  • Applied GIS Experience in the civil engineering industry.

  • Must be able to bend, lift, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces.

The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $56,700.00/Yr. - USD $87,400.00/Yr. depending on experience and qualifications.
