Job description

Overview
We are seeking a full-time Cartography Technician 1 at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for completing well-defined basic tasks for the creation, edition, evaluation and maintenance of cartographic data for use in Garmin products, in compliance with established methodology and processes.
Essential Functions
  • Works as an entry level professional under close supervision of supervisor or mentor, following specific, detailed instructions and communicating status of work clearly to supervisor or mentor
  • Creates, edits and/or maintains cartographic data using Garmin-proprietary and/or third-party software
  • Completes well-defined basic cartography tasks
  • Identifies/resolves simple issues using proper cartography techniques
  • Submits work for peer review to ensure product integrity and acts on feedback
  • Participates in cartographic data evaluation, processing and verification using established methodology
  • Demonstrates drive to develop product/process enhancements on features and settings on assigned tasks

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Geosciences or related field OR equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
  • Basic working knowledge and understanding of digital cartographic principles relevant to Garmin's business needs
  • Proficient computer skills and familiarity with PC applications in a Windows environment
  • Ability to learn/understand established processes/tools and apply them to daily tasks
  • Good interpersonal and technical verbal/written communication skills, good organizational skills, and able to document work thoroughly and in an organized manner
  • Enthusiastic attitude with a strong sense of commitment, accountability and urgency
  • Ability to work professionally and in a positive/respectful manner with all stakeholders and able to work collaboratively in a team environment to achieve goals
  • Ability to maintain focus on assigned tasks, share ideas freely/positively, and demonstrate a growth mindset/eagerness to learn
