Required:
Requires a high school diploma and 2 - 4 years experience in materials distribution (shipping/receiving/inventory) or equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
Ability to utilize computer systems, Excel, Word, other software packages. Familiarity with SAP preferred.
Job Description:
  • Will primarily be responsible to work on routine processes as well as tasks that require some judgment without supervision.
  • Receives detailed instructions on new assignments. Responsible for accurate receipt and timely distribution of materials.
  • Responsible for knowledge in both receiving and mailroom functions.
  • Will unload delivery trucks, verify counts against packing slips and SAP for correct quantities.
  • Will inspect packages for damages.
  • Must ensure safe and proper handling, storage, and delivery of time and temperature sensitive materials as well as chemicals, biological and radioactive materials.
  • Must be able to operate manual material handling equipment such as a pallet jack. Must be able to keep accurate records and have good customer service skills.
  • Intermediate computer/data entry skills required.
  • Must be able to lift 35 lbs. unassisted, have a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record.
  • This position may require the use of a company vehicle to pick up and transport supplies between buildings.
Duties And Responsibilities
  • Sign for materials received, check goods against packing slips and follow procedures for processing materials that do not match or are damaged.
  • Assist with unloading of materials from delivery vehicles, verify materials against purchase orders and perform data entry into SAP.
  • Process and deliver materials to appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure proper handling and storage of incoming chemical, biological, and radioactive materials.
  • Ensure appropriate handling and timely delivery of mail, packages, research animals, in-house stock requests, and time/temperature sensitive materials to requesters, mailboxes, and designated drop of points at various on/off site locations.
  • Transfer mail, supplies and small quantities of DOT regulated materials between sites on a fixed schedule.
  • If applicable, prepare hazardous material shipping papers as per DOT requirements.
  • Operate company vehicle in a safe manner. Keep vehicle in clean condition and refuel as necessary.
  • Sort and distribute in-coming and out-going U.S. and international mail. Operate postage machine and process invoices when applicable.
  • Maintain internal mailboxes where applicable. Ensure names are current and listed in alphabetical sequence.
  • Distribution of Copy Paper to designated locations.
  • Maintain inventory of all necessary supplies used by the department.
  • If applicable, monitor usage and replacement of compressed gases on a manifold system.
  • If applicable, deliver full compressed gas cylinders and replace empty cylinders as needed/requested by other departments.
  • Notifies appropriate departments of damaged or mixed materials.
  • Participates in required training on regulatory issues affecting own area of work and brings regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of management.
  • Participates in all required workplace safety meetings and training and remains current in knowledge of SOP's and programs relating to health and safety.
  • Notifies Supervisor or designee of problem situations in a timely manner.
  • Maintains warehouse areas in a clean and orderly manner.
  • May be required to operate a forklift and/or Company vehicle as directed.
  • Provides accurate, timely, and courteous service to all customers.
  • Follows client Biosciences Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) policies and procedures.
  • Takes responsibility for safety in immediate work area. Participates in EH&S programs. Notifies supervisors of all observed hazardous conditions or unsafe work practices.
  • May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment.
  • Performs other related duties and assignments as designated by Supervisor.
