Your role at GEI.
GEI's California Water Resources practice is growing, and we are seeking an Entry-Level Structural Engineer to join our Rancho Cordova office. The Rancho Cordova team provides engineering services for a wide range of water resource infrastructure projects, including dams, spillways, outlet works, pump stations, pipelines, canals, water storage facilities, and groundwater recharge projects.
The selected candidate will support GEI's companywide Structural/Geo-Structural practice and work with senior staff on the planning, design, and construction support of water resource facilities and hydraulic structures. Responsibilities include structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete and steel structures, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, construction cost estimating, design implementation, and technical report preparation. The position will also support ongoing engineering planning, design, and construction management activities for these projects
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
  • Perform structural analysis and design of hydraulic structures under the direct supervision of senior staff
  • Collaborate with senior project managers and technical staff across the company
  • Evaluate and analyze collected data and prepare technical reports, letters and memoranda
  • Prepare design calculations , permit documents, and reports
  • Develop construction drawings through coordination with CAD team, technical specifications, cost estimates and bid documents
  • Travel to project sites and other offices as required, including overnight travel

Minimum Qualifications
  • B.S. degree in Civil Engineering
  • 0-3 years of professional experience in Structural Engineering
  • Proficient with MS Office and familiar with AutoCAD.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well alone and in a team atmosphere
  • Willing to travel to site locations as needed, including field assignments
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S./Ph.D. degree in Structural Engineering
  • EIT certification and planning to obtain PE licensure in the near future
  • Coursework in earthquake/seismic engineering and finite element modeling, with familiarity with structural engineering software such as SAP2000, LS-DYNA, ANSYS, or similar programs
