PRN (As Needed)
Work a min of 24 hours off shift per 6 week schedule.
General Summary
Provides direct care to patients by performing a variety of duties, including assisting with data collection, provision of care, completion of selected therapeutic interventions, and documentation of care provided for a specified group of patients. The purpose of the Respiratory Therapy Intern Program is to provide the RT student therapist with enhanced experiential learning and improve clinical competence in an acute care setting. The respiratory intern is accountable to a designated preceptor and department manager.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
  • Provides information needed by the registered respiratory therapist to coordinate the care for the patient and family.
  • Administers respiratory therapy modalities as per the physician, clinical practice guidelines and/or clinical pathway.
  • Assists with patient assessment.
  • Monitors patient condition levels and reports changes to the appropriate individuals.
  • Performs selected procedures if demonstrated competency (skills checklist/competency verification must be provided). Example: (not an all-inclusive list) ABG sampling, noninvasive BiPAP/CPAP set up, bronchopulmonary hygiene, tracheostomy care
  • Sets up and removes equipment and supplies; ensures equipment is functioning properly and stored appropriately.
  • Provides quality care consistent with appropriate policies and procedures, quality assessment program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Common Expectations:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:
  • No experience. Required

Licenses:
  • Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required

Courses and Training:
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Respiratory Therapy program. Upon Hire Required
