Job description

The Supreme Court of Nevada, Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC), is seeking a Systems Administrator I to join the Information Technology Infrastructure team. This team provides critical technology services to the Supreme Court, helping ensure the reliability, security, and performance of the systems that support court operations and public access to justice.

Working under the guidance of senior systems administrators, the Systems Administrator I assists with the administration, maintenance, and support of the Court's server and infrastructure environment while developing the technical knowledge and experience needed to independently manage enterprise systems over time. This is a hands-on technical role involving system monitoring, troubleshooting, maintenance, security, virtualization, and backup technologies, with opportunities to build familiarity with cloud platforms as the Court's infrastructure continues to evolve. This position provides excellent opportunities for professional growth through mentorship, exposure to enterprise technologies, and participation in projects that enhance the security, reliability, and efficiency of the Nevada Judiciary's technology environment.

This position may be located in Carson City or Las Vegas.

After an initial training period, there may be an opportunity for a hybrid remote/in-office schedule. This position requires occasional statewide travel and may require working evenings, weekends, or after-hours.

Key Responsibilities

Systems Administration & Operations

  • Assist with administering and supporting Windows Server environments; familiarity with Linux environments is preferred.
  • Support Active Directory administration, including user, group, and computer object management.
  • Monitor system performance and availability, respond to alerts, and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Perform routine maintenance, patching, and system updates under the guidance of senior administrators.
  • Help maintain core infrastructure services, including DNS, Group Policy, and file services.

Infrastructure & Platform Support

  • Support administration of the on-premises VMware virtualization environment.
  • Assist with administration of Nimble storage and HPE Synergy infrastructure.
  • Support Rubrik backup administration, including job monitoring, backup verification, recovery testing, and restoration activities.
  • Develop familiarity with AWS and Azure technologies as the Court's infrastructure evolves toward a hybrid environment. Hands-on cloud administration is not a primary responsibility of this position.

Security & Compliance

  • Follow established security standards, hardening guidelines, and access control policies.
  • Assist with vulnerability remediation and compliance activities.
  • Report security incidents, vulnerabilities, and configuration deviations promptly.

Documentation & Change Management

  • Maintain system documentation, procedures, and configuration records.
  • Document incidents, changes, and resolutions within the IT service management system.

Collaboration & Support

  • Provide technical support for server and infrastructure-related issues.
  • Respond to infrastructure service requests and incidents in accordance with established service levels and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with senior systems administrators and other IT teams on operational tasks, projects, and technology initiatives.
Qualifications
  • One to three years of experience in systems administration or technical support.
  • Experience supporting Windows Server and Active Directory environments; familiarity with Linux environments is preferred.
  • Experience with or exposure to VMware virtualization and enterprise storage or backup platforms (such as Nimble, HPE Synergy, or Rubrik) is highly desirable.
  • Basic awareness of AWS and/or Azure.
  • Foundational knowledge of system security principles and access controls.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and follow established procedures.

If this position is approved for remote or hybrid work, the incumbent must be able to work effectively and collaborate with employees from a remote location as needed. The individual must be proficient with virtual meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams and perform all job duties through a reliable internet connection provided by the employee. The network connection must support all required job functions, with a minimum download speed of 50–100 Mbps. Higher speeds may be necessary if the connection is shared with other members of the household.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Entry-level certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+, Microsoft certifications, VMware VCTA, or similar technical certifications are preferred.
