Job description

Are you interested in being a Residential Appraiser for St. Louis County? Put your expertise to work conducting inspections of property, researching, reviewing information and making appraisals.
The salary range reflected above is the normal hiring range for 2026. The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $30.18 - $42.65 per hour.
This Residential Appraiser position is part of the Civil Service Basic Unit Employees Collective Bargaining Agreement represented by Council 5 of AFSCME.

St. Louis County does not participate in E-Verify. All employees must be continuously authorized to work in the United States, for St. Louis County, on a full-time basis. St. Louis County does not provide sponsorship for employment visas.
An employee in this entry level appraiser class is responsible for making routine appraisals of residential and agricultural properties in St. Louis County. Duties include: conducting inspections of property to determine conditions, improvements, measurements and locations; researching property descriptions, deeds and other documents; reviewing information with property owners and others to assess accuracy of information; making appraisals based on available information. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.

These work environment factors are general in nature and may vary depending on the specific position being filled. FREQUENT: Lift-push/pull while stationary up to 10 pounds; Carry-push/pull while moving about up to 10 pounds; Balance; Move About; Grasp; Handle; Reach; Sit; Stand; Talk/Speak; Walk; Hearing close proximity (0-5 ft) and Hearing distance (up to 20 ft); Vision (near, midrange and far); Works alone; Works around others; Inside; Outside; Drive; exposure to weather conditions; and exposure to traffic. OCCASIONAL: Carry-push/pull while moving 11 to 20 pounds; Climb stairs; Headset; Works with others; Customer/Public contact; and exposure to slippery surfaces. RARE: Carry-push/pull while moving 21 to 100 pounds; Crouch/Squat; Kneel; Stoop/Bend; Twist (waist); Clients with Behavioral Challenges; and Extended day.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Pass/Fail):
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
RATING SYSTEM:
Supplemental Questions will be 100% of the scoring process:
  • Points will be awarded based on the applicants answers to supplemental questions 8-13.
  • Experience beyond ten years may be included on the application for purposes of meeting minimum qualifications or informing the hiring authority of your complete employment history.
