Bookkeeper – Construction Company
Good Guys Contracting
Long Island, NY | Full-Time | In-Person
$26–per hour

About Good Guys Contracting
Good Guys Contracting is an established and growing exterior remodeling company serving homeowners throughout Long Island. We specialize in high-end siding, roofing, windows, doors, decking, and exterior renovations.
As our company continues to grow, we’re looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to join our team and take ownership of our day-to-day bookkeeping and financial recordkeeping.
We’re not looking for an entry-level bookkeeper, but we’re also not looking for a Controller, CPA, or someone with decades of senior accounting experience.
We’re looking for someone in the middle: a solid, experienced bookkeeper who understands the fundamentals, is comfortable in QuickBooks, pays close attention to details, and wants to become an important part of a growing company.

You’ll Have Support From Day One

We’re currently working with an outside consulting company that specializes in bookkeeping and financial systems for growing construction companies.
They are helping us further develop and refine our QuickBooks setup, construction accounting processes, job costing, reporting, and financial systems.
Our new Bookkeeper will initially work directly with this team to learn the systems and processes being built for Good Guys Contracting.
You won’t be walking into the position and simply being told to figure everything out yourself.
You’ll have experienced construction-bookkeeping professionals helping establish the systems, processes, and best practices you’ll ultimately help manage.
As you become comfortable with those systems, you’ll take increasing ownership of our day-to-day bookkeeping and help ensure everything continues to operate accurately and consistently as the company grows.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
  • Managing day-to-day bookkeeping in QuickBooks
  • Accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Entering and paying vendor and subcontractor bills
  • Recording and tracking customer payments and deposits
  • Bank and credit-card reconciliations
  • Maintaining accurate general-ledger records
  • Properly categorizing expenses
  • Tracking costs and expenses by individual project
  • Assisting with construction job costing and job profitability
  • Maintaining accurate vendor and subcontractor records
  • Assisting with payroll-related bookkeeping and records
  • Identifying discrepancies and helping resolve them
  • Preparing regular bookkeeping and financial reports for management
  • Maintaining organized financial records and documentation
  • Working with our outside bookkeeping consultants and CPA/accountant
  • Following and maintaining the financial processes being developed for the company
  • Helping improve our bookkeeping systems as Good Guys Contracting continues to grow

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of professional bookkeeping experience preferred
  • 2+ years of hands-on QuickBooks experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Experience performing bank and credit-card reconciliations
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Highly organized with excellent follow-through
  • Comfortable learning and following established processes
  • Able to recognize when something doesn’t look right and investigate it
  • Comfortable working independently once trained
  • Strong communication skills
  • Comfortable working in a growing, fast-paced small-business environment

Construction Experience Is a Plus — Not a Requirement
Experience with construction bookkeeping, job costing, or project-based accounting is a definite plus.
However, we’re willing to teach the construction-specific side of the position to the right experienced bookkeeper.

Because you’ll initially be working alongside a consulting company that specializes in bookkeeping for growing construction companies, we’re more interested in finding someone with strong bookkeeping fundamentals, attention to detail, and the ability to learn than someone who simply has “construction” on their résumé.
