GDS Associates, Inc. has an exciting and challenging opportunity with advancement and growth potential for an Associate Energy Engineer in our Bedford, NH, Northeast regional office. This position is for a motivated entry level candidate with strong communication skills and a foundational understanding of engineering principles. The successful candidate would be joining a growing team of energy engineers that are providing independent consulting on energy efficiency projects in commercial, industrial, and agricultural facilities throughout New England.

Main responsibilities:

  • Providing energy efficiency implementation and technical assistance support for clients and direct end-use customers.
  • Assisting GDS Project Managers and consulting staff with energy audits, data collection, statistical and financial analysis, report writing, and development of reports and presentations for various clients.
  • Performing field work and energy audits at commercial, industrial, and agricultural facilities to identify energy conservation measures and collect supporting information.
  • Assisting engineers with energy efficiency program measurement and verification activities including field measurements of temperature, air/water flow rates, chilled - and hot-water loads, electrical power, and other data logging.
  • Developing and using detailed spreadsheets for modeling building energy use and energy conservation measure savings including leveraging prescribed Technical Reference Manuals (TRMs)
  • Setting up, deploying, and analyzing data from metering equipment to support development of energy conservation measures.
  • Coordinating with trade allies and contractors to develop firm fixed costs for energy conservation projects.
  • Performing supplemental research on energy efficiency and distributed generation technology for on-going GDS projects.
  • Travel within the New England region to job sites and meetings (10-30%).

Experience and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, math and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapt to a changing environment and meet project deadlines.
  • Desire to work autonomously while maintaining team relations and connections.
  • Demonstrated excellence in Microsoft Excel and data management. Experience with other data management platforms is desirable but not required.
  • Energy auditing, energy efficiency analysis, and experience working with trade allies is preferred but not required.
  • General knowledge of building science, HVAC, controls, and distributed energy systems is preferred.
  • 1-2 days per week, day travel
  • Work from a ladder doing inspections
