Job description

This is an in-person role based out of our office located in Underwood, WA.

Who You Are:
You're a GIS professional who enjoys seeing how good data translates into real work on the ground. You're comfortable managing and maintaining complex spatial data, creating useful maps, troubleshooting discrepancies, and supporting the people who rely on that information to make decisions.

You also enjoy getting out from behind the computer. You're interested in forestry operations, comfortable working independently in the field, and willing to jump in wherever needed - whether that means collecting GPS data, checking a harvest operation, working with a contractor, or helping resolve a property boundary issue.

What the Job Is
This position provides GIS and operational forestry support for Green Diamond's Columbia Basin Management Area. GIS will be a primary focus of the role, including stewardship of corporate GIS data, mapping, editing, GPS data processing, and support of the forest management system.

The position will also work closely with the forestry team to support harvest, silviculture, inventory, road, and property management activities. It's a good fit for someone who likes the technical side of natural resource management but also wants to stay connected to field operations and see firsthand how their work is being used.

What the Department is Like
You'll be part of a forestry team responsible for managing working forestlands with a focus on safe, responsible, and effective forest management. The work is collaborative, but this role also requires someone who can take ownership of their responsibilities, manage competing priorities, and work independently.

You'll interact regularly with foresters, contractors, the GIS and inventory teams, regulatory agencies, and occasionally members of the public. Some days will be spent working with GIS data and maps; others may have you in the field supporting active forestry operations or property management activities.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as the primary steward of GIS data for the area, including maintaining, editing, updating, and troubleshooting spatial data and associated records.
  • Create maps and maintain GIS information using ESRI ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, and our internal forest management system to support forestry operations, regulatory applications, contracts, and special projects.
  • Coordinate GIS data and projects with the GIS and Inventory team, including quarterly depletion updates and property acquisition and disposition activities.
  • Collect and process GPS data for property boundaries, roads, streams, wildlife features, and other operational needs.
  • Manage the property survey program, including contracting, administration, recordkeeping, GIS updates, and encroachment monitoring.
  • Support harvest unit and haul road layout and assist with field oversight of logging, road construction and maintenance, site preparation, planting, and other forestry activities.
  • Conduct field checks and work with contractors to support safe, timely operations and compliance with contracts, harvest plans, Forest Practices requirements, and SFI standards.
  • Build effective relationships with coworkers, contractors, regulatory agencies, and community members while representing the company Diamond professionally.
  • Actively support a safe workplace and participate in the safety program.

What You'll Bring
A bachelor's degree in Forest Management, Natural Resource Management, GIS, or a related field and approximately three to seven years of relevant operational experience is preferred; equivalent industry experience may be considered in place of a degree.

You'll need strong ArcGIS skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office, a valid driver's license, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Experience with forestry operations and working knowledge of Washington and Oregon Forest Practices rules and SFI standards are strongly preferred.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who is organized, self-directed, comfortable managing multiple priorities, communicates well with a variety of people, and approaches problems with curiosity and a willingness to figure things out.

Compensation Details:
Annual Pay Range: $29.83 - $44.75/hour. The pay range listed is just one component of Green Diamond's total compensation package. Other rewards include eligibility to receive a company-wide annual financial performance bonus, and the opportunity to receive an individual performance-based bonus, candidate referral bonuses, and spot bonuses.

Green Diamond offers generous benefits including medical/vision and dental, life and disability insurance, 401(k) plan with match and profit sharing, and an employee assistance program. Reimbursements for work-related safety equipment, and wellness. Paid time off includes 9 designated and up to 2 floating (personal) holidays, minimum of 10 days' vacation (or per policy based on experience), 10 days of sick leave, 30 days of parental leave, 3 days of bereavement, jury duty, 1 volunteer day, and 5 family care days. A company vehicle for business use. Cell phone reimbursement for business use. More benefits information can be found at GreenDiamond.com.

Who Green Diamond is:
We grow and nurture forests, a renewable resource to build homes, schools, and household necessities, harnessing carbon every single day we operate. We're a family-owned company that is guided by our values of environmental stewardship and supporting our local communities. We do what's right, even when it is the harder path to follow.
