OPPORTUNITY: We are a Food service folding carton manufacturing operation seeking candidates to join our Elk Grove Village, IL team. This job posting is for a Press – 2nd Operator with a pay range of 27.20 to 30.84/hour plus shift differential and progressive pay increases. JOB SUMMARY: The person who occupies this position is responsible for assisting Press - 1st Operator with running printing press and with maintaining top quality printing. Press – 2nd Operator understand and align business operations and Finishing Department as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • To assist Press - 1st Operator with maintaining quality of printed sheets. Examine for proper color, register, copy, position and detect unnecessary markings per the Printing Department Control Plan.
  • To assist the Press – 1st Operator with determining the cause of printing problems and adjust press to correct these issues.
  • Responsible to assist in the maintenance of the press. Keep water tank, ink fountain and blanket wash units full.
  • Responsible to assist crew in press-make readies by:
    • Preparing materials needed for new printing job.
    • Assisting with cleaning of press. Wash blankets, clean and rinse fountain rollers. Clean dampening rollers.
    • Remove old plates, install new plates and fill ink fountains.
  • Responsible for performing duties of Press - 1st Operator or Feeder when needed in order to keep press running.
  • Assist with monthly Preventative Maintenance which includes cleaning, greasing and oiling the press. Rollers are changed when necessary.

BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:

  • Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Mechanical/technical aptitude
  • Entry Level Computer skills
  • Must have Feeder/Operator experience.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English. Need to have basic math skills. Mechanical aptitude a plus. Must have working knowledge of a printing press.
  • Must be flexible: Able to work all shifts, overtime and weekends when needed.

EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Schedules are up to 8 or 12-hour shifts on alternate days with rotating weekends off. However, employees must have the ability to work alternate schedules and overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
  • Some Departments/Jobs may run a M-F 8-hour Shift Schedule.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sitting or standing, depending on changing job assignment, for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Physical and visual activities that are commonly associated* with the performance of the functions of this job:
    • Standing, walking, lifting (up to 40 lbs. without assistance and up to 100 lbs. with assistance), carrying (same as lifting), pushing (empty pallets onto press), pulling (loaded pallets from press), stooping, bending, reaching, handling (pulling printed samples), ability to communicate with press members, visual acuity (far and near, color vision).
  • Physical demands commonly associated* with the performance of the functions of this job:
    • While press is running, position requires physical ability to pull loaded pallet from press (weighing between 1500 and 2000 lbs.) with hand truck.
    • While press is running, position requires ability to lift empty pallets (weighing 25-90 lbs.) from stack and placing them at bottom of press with assistance.
    • Press - 2nd Operator vision must be acute at short distances (20 inches or less) in order to inspect quality of printing sheets. Color vision is necessary to detect variances in color of printed sheets.
    • Job function 4A requires physical ability to lift and carry ink buckets (up to 35 lbs.). Buckets are carried up stairs (3 ft.) and lifted approximately 4 ft. high.
    • Job function 6 requires lifting of rollers weighing up to 150 lbs. Lifting is to be assisted by other Operator or Feeder.
  • Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software:
    • Printing press, CPC (color printer control) for Heidelberg Press, Logitronics, Densitometer, PEAK, SAP, Printing Department specific tools.
  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature.
  • Inside Conditions noise (from printing presses and forklifts), vibration, odors and dust.
