These roles typically include software developer, QA tester, data analyst, and IT support positions, and are designed to provide practical experience in the field. OPT allows international students to work in their area of study for up to 12 months after graduation, or up to 36 months if they qualify for the STEM extension. Entry level positions usually require basic coding skills, problem-solving abilities, and familiarity with common programming languages. These jobs often serve as a stepping stone to more advanced roles in the tech industry.

To thrive as an Entry Level Computer Science professional, you generally need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, problem-solving skills, and a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with programming languages like Python, Java, or C++, and experience using version control systems such as Git are typically expected. Strong communication, teamwork, and adaptability help you collaborate effectively and learn quickly in dynamic environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for developing reliable software, integrating into technical teams, and advancing in the fast-evolving tech industry.

Technical Intern- Software (Fall 2026)

DensityAI

Mountain View, CA โ€ข On-site

Internship

Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, PTO

Posted 15 days ago

Job description

About the Role

Join DensityAI as a software engineering intern working on the software stack behind our custom AI accelerator. You'll work alongside the kernel, compiler, and architecture teams on the layer where high-level ML workloads meet silicon - writing performance-critical code, building the tooling that measures it, and running your work on our architectural simulator. This is a hands-on internship with genuine ownership, close mentorship, and a real project to show for it.

What You'll Do
  • Write and optimize compute code for a custom AI accelerator - tensor operations, data movement patterns, and memory hierarchy exploitation
  • Build and extend profiling and benchmarking infrastructure that measures performance against architectural targets
  • Run kernels and workloads end-to-end on the architectural simulator, and help debug what doesn't behave as expected
  • Contribute to tooling, test coverage, and automation the kernel and compiler teams depend on daily
  • Take part in code reviews and design discussions with your mentor and the wider team
  • Write up what you built - onboarding notes, guides, and documentation that outlast your internship
  • Present your project and results to the team at the end of the internship
What We're Looking For
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • C/C++ and/or Pythonย - you've written real programs, not just coursework snippets, and you're comfortable debugging your own code
  • Strong CS fundamentalsย - data structures, algorithms, and a working mental model of how code executes on a machine
  • Genuine interest in computer architecture and performanceย - pipelines, memory hierarchies, and why one implementation is 10x faster than another
  • Curiosity, self-direction, and eagerness to learn fast in a startup environment
Compensation

Final offers depend on level, location, and skills relevant to the role. Additional compensation: equity grant per company guidelines; medical / dental / vision; 401(k); standard PTO.

Visa Sponsorship

DensityAI sponsors qualified candidates for H-1B, O-1, TN, E-3, and other employment-based visas, and we welcome applicants on F-1 OPT and STEM-OPT. Work authorization is required at start; we provide immigration support to secure or transfer status.

Export Controls

Aspects of this role may involve access to information subject to U.S. export controls (EAR/ITAR). We may discuss licensing or scope adjustments during the interview.

Equal Opportunity

DensityAI is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religious creed, national origin, ancestry, physical or mental disability, medical condition, genetic information, marital status, sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, age (40+), sexual orientation, military or veteran status, pregnancy, or any other status protected by law. We comply with the California CROWN Act and provide reasonable accommodations on request.
