Summary:

The IS NextGen Developer I is responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of electronic clinical tools within the NextGen Enterprise system and assisting with custom software development that improves user experience and operational efficiency. Under the guidance of senior development staff, this position participates in the design, coding, testing, and documentation of EHR forms, workflow logic, and entry-level web-based tools using .NET and MVC C#. The Developer I builds forms that support compliance, data integrity, and ease of use, and plays an important role in integrating data across systems to streamline care delivery and reporting.

This role is ideal for individuals with foundational programming experience—particularly in SQL and C#—who are looking to expand their skills in a healthcare IT environment. The Developer I must be able to work both independently and collaboratively, adapting technical solutions to meet the needs of clinical and operational users. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain EHR forms and templates within the NextGen development environment based on guidance from the EHR and Forms Committees
  • Participate in software and system testing, including bug tracking, release testing, and beta support
  • Write logic and validation to ensure clinical documentation meets compliance and reporting standards
  • Integrate data from multiple sources (e.g., lab results, medications, HIEs) into unified workflows
  • Participate in design meetings to understand system needs and support operational improvements
  • Assist with .NET (C# / MVC) web development for lightweight internal tools or workflow support
  • Provide support to the Helpdesk and train staff on new EHR functionality or logic changes
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

  • Understanding of healthcare data relationships and workflows
  • Ability to design clinical tools that support accuracy, usability, and compliance

Qualification Requirements: 

  • Familiarity with structured query language (SQL) and relational database design
  • Experience with or exposure to .NET development (C# / MVC)
  • Ability to translate clinical and administrative needs into software design logic
  • Basic understanding of healthcare workflows, documentation, and compliance

Education and/or Experience:  

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Health Informatics, or a related field preferred
  • 1 year of experience working with database-driven systems, preferably in healthcare
  • Experience with EHR form design or clinical application development preferred
  • Exposure to NextGen, or willingness to train in the platform, is highly desirable
