Job description

Mesa seeks a talented, detail oriented, hard working Drafter/3D Modeler/Designer to join our team based in Knoxville, TN. The successful candidate will perform 3D and 2D drafting in AutoCAD, and Inventor. Experience in these software suites is strongly preferred. The superior candidate will be a self starter that loves to learn new CAD software and takes ownership and pride in producing high quality, error free CAD work.

This position involves the preparation of design drawings such as:  3D models, general arrangements, equipment plans, elevations, sections, control house layouts, grounding plan, conduit and cable plan, bills of material, cable schedules for medium and high voltage substations using AutoCAD, Inventor, P4I, Revit, Solidworks, and Microsoft Office software tools.  The position requires working with others in a collaborative team environment as well as a possible small amount of travel.  Experience in Inventor or Solidworks preferred. SDS Smart Tools is a plus.

Education/Experience:  

  • Two year associates degree in engineering technology or drafting is preferred.
  • Candidates with Drafting Certificates will also be considered.
  • Specific applicable experience (2 years or more) with the software listed above may also be considered in lieu of degree/certificates.  
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience is preferred but not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Create 3D parts and assemblies in Autodesk Inventor.
  • Convert files between Inventor and MicroStation.
  • Occasionally learn and perform drafting functions in other CAD applications.
  • The successful candidate may be asked to lead small drafting intensive projects.
  • Occasionally performs non-technical drafting support for assigned projects, utilizing various computer aided design technology.
  • Assigned basic, routine drafting work with few technical items requiring resolution.
  • Work is spot checked in progress and checked upon completion.
  • Responsible for back checking own work to minimize rework.
  • The ideal candidate will become proficient in understanding assigned drawings and will eventually progress to drawing creation and design.
  • May occasionally assist engineers and designers with various administrative functions.

Career Path: 

  • We are looking for someone to help with our entry level drafting effort for approximately 6 months to 1 year and then transition to a full time production substation design role. This successful candidate will be detail oriented, hardworking, and looking for career growth. Entry level Degreed Engineers are also encouraged to apply for this position which may lead directly to a production engineering role within 3 months.
