IT Field Technician (Traveling IT Support Technician)

Location: Omaha, NE

Schedule: Monday-Friday Travel | Home on Weekends

Duration: 12-Month Contract-to-Hire

Important: This is a travel-focused IT field support role. The ideal candidate enjoys traveling, working independently, and solving technical issues in customer environments. Technicians travel Monday through Friday supporting healthcare and education customers throughout the region and are home on weekends. If you enjoy hands-on IT work, troubleshooting technology, and working directly with end users, this is a great opportunity.

No professional IT experience is required. Candidates with personal IT projects, technical training, certifications, military experience, internships, computer-related coursework, or a strong passion for technology are strongly encouraged to apply.

Overview

Our client is a global leader in medical simulation technology, providing advanced patient simulators used by hospitals, universities, and healthcare training programs. These systems allow medical professionals to practice real-life scenarios in a controlled environment, helping improve patient outcomes and reduce risk in clinical settings.

They are seeking an IT Field Technician to provide technical support, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting for Windows-based simulation systems and network-connected technology deployed at customer locations throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and support Windows-based simulator systems at hospitals, universities, and training centers
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network connectivity issues
  • Configure systems within customer network environments and verify proper communication across devices
  • Diagnose and resolve Windows 10 operating system issues
  • Support TCP/IP networking, IP addressing, DHCP, and basic network troubleshooting
  • Perform preventive maintenance and system health checks
  • Provide technical support and training to end users
  • Document service activities and technical findings
  • Travel to customer locations throughout the region
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while representing the company in the field

Travel Expectations

  • This role is designed for someone who enjoys travel and field-based IT support
  • Travel is required Monday through Friday to support customer locations throughout the region
  • Technicians are home on weekends
  • Travel may include driving and occasional flights depending on customer location
  • Hotels, flights, rental vehicles, and approved travel expenses are fully covered by the company
  • $65 daily meal stipend provided while traveling
  • Candidates should be comfortable spending weekdays on the road while supporting end users and resolving technical issues on-site

Training

  • 13-week paid training program
  • Combination of classroom instruction and hands-on field shadowing
  • Monday-Friday travel required during training
  • All travel expenses covered during training

Must-Haves

  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the workweek
  • Interest in IT, technology, troubleshooting, and hands-on technical work
  • Experience with Windows 10/11 through school, personal use, internships, military experience, certifications, or professional work
  • Basic understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and IP addressing
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to learn new technologies and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to work independently in customer-facing environments

Preferred Qualifications (Highly Encouraged)

  • Professional experience in IT support, help desk, desktop support, field services, technical support, telecom, AV, low voltage, or related technical fields
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, Google IT Support, or similar certification
  • College coursework, technical school training, military technical experience, or IT internships
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, or network issues
  • Experience supporting Windows operating systems
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
